The Horror Show seems like a fitting name for a show taking place in this horror show of a year known as 2020 and yet here we are approaching The Horror Show at Extreme Rules and it somehow feels silly. Silly seems to be a recurring theme in WWE, especially on this upcoming card which will feature a “Swamp Match” and an “Eye for an Eye match,” which is heavily implying the only way to win is to pull your opponent’s eye out.
Silly is not exactly a bad thing in professional wrestling but you have to find a balance that lies somewhere in between the masterpiece that was AEW’s Stadium Stampede back in May and whatever The Horror Show at Extreme Rules will end up being. But putting the silliness of it all aside, let’s try to break down this show in a serious way by looking at the Betting Odds for THE HORROR SHOW AT EXTREME RULES and I will also give my predictions.
Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler – WWE Championship Match Prediction and Odds
So here’s the thing, this match is supposed to have a stipulation but the challenger (Ziggler) is the one who’s supposed to choose it and he’s decided to keep it a secret until the actual match starts (it’s rumored to be a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match). In other words, WWE either forgot to announce the stipulation on Raw or they’re not sure what stipulation to choose.
Either way, this is your safe bet, Ziggler is the designated challenger for the WWE Champion to beat during the summer before starting a big program for SummerSlam (he feuded with Kofi for the title this time last year as well) and the betting odds prove this by favoring McIntyre (-2000) over Ziggler (+700). Albeit with no fans to back him, Drew’s having a fantastic WWE Championship reign and he seems to be on a collision course with Raw’s top heel, Randy Orton. The two of them are more than likely going to hit the squared circle at SummerSlam so let’s all get on the McIntyre Train to Claymore County.
WWE Championship Match Prediction: Drew McIntyre
Asuka (c) vs. Sasha Banks – Raw Women’s Championship Match Prediction and Odds
This is perhaps the biggest match on the card and the most well-built one as well. These two are definitely going to steal the show but there’s a story within a story here and that’s the inevitable collision between current tag team champions, Sasha Banks and Bayley.
We have been waiting for this feud for years and it seems to (a.) be finally happening and (b.) being built up in the perfect way (as opposed to when they made Sasha and Bayley go to couple’s therapy for some reason a couple years ago). And because we’re expecting Sasha to eventually dethrone Bayley as Smackdown Women’s Champion the betting odds favor the Raw Women’s Champion in this match. Asuka (-300) could be on her way to a big SummerSlam match while Sasha Banks (+200) will continue to build on all the small little hints of dissention she’s been planting with Bayley.
Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins – An Eye for an Eye Match Predictions and Odds
Let me remind you that the end goal of this match will be to pull your opponent’s eye out and that it is being discussed which type of CGI will allow WWE to pull this off. Now does that sound like a crazy train wreck? Probably, but I can assure you it will be the kind where you won’t be able to look away. Honestly, the curiosity of how they’re going to pull this off and what the fallout from it will be is great television (like, if Rollins loses will he just continue to go around with an eye patch?). There are so many questions that can only be answered from watching this match and seeing how this unfolds.
The betting odds favor Rollins (-150) over Mysterio (+110) and there are a couple of reasons I agree with them. First off, it has been reported that Mysterio is currently working with WWE without a contract and him and Mr. McMahon can’t agree on a number for Rey to renew his contract.
Therefore, this match and the blinding stipulation of it may be a way to write Mysterio off WWE. Secondly, ever since turning heel, Seth Rollins hasn’t actually won a big match: he lost the tag team championships back in March, lost to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania and lost to Drew McIntyre at Money in the Bank. That is why it seems fitting for Rollins to finally score the big win his Messiah character needs by literally ripping Mysterio’s eye out.
And that’s it for the predictions for Sunday’s HORROR SHOW AT EXTREME RULES event (what a silly, silly name).
