WWE Payback Betting Odds and Prediction

By: Kerby Rodriguez

If you’re hoping for me to answer why WWE has decided to hold another PPV exactly one week after their big SummerSlam event, I’m sorry to tell you I don’t have the answer. Nonetheless, WWE will be holding Payback This Sunday from their signature Thunderdome in Orlando.

And while the event surely feels rushed, you have hand it to WWE for creating major buzz around the show with the return of big stars like Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. Plus, it is not just the known faces who will show up in Orlando, we will also see the debut of new faces like Keith Lee who will get his PPV debut match against the one and only Randy Orton on Sunday.

So, before we head back to the Thunderdome let’s check in on the betting odds and my predictions for WWE Payback.

Universal Championship Triple Threat Match Betting Odds and Prediction

“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns – Universal Championship Triple Threat Match

The Big Dog returned at the end of SummerSlam and he looked different; he seemed more aggressive and determined and it led to a lot of speculation about what kind of Roman would we be getting this time around. Immediately it was announced that Roman would be challenging for the Universal Title at Payback (something that makes sense because in hindsight, Roman has never lost that title and was in line for a shot at it before leaving back in the Spring).

While these betting odds give the advantage to The Fiend (-300) over former champion Strowman (+500) and newcomer Reigns (+150).

However, I decided to watch SmackDown before writing my predictions for the show and boy am I glad I did because a major storyline development took place ahead of Payback. Roman Reigns revealed he was now aligned to Paul Heyman to close the show. When I tell you my mind was blown, I’m not kidding.

People have been clamoring for a change in Roman Reigns, a heel turn perhaps, something that will make people care a bit more about the intentions or goals of the Big Dog in the ring and a new alliance with Paul Heyman could be a major and much needed change for The Big Dog. If you’re Roman, this alliance has to pay off and pay off it will when Roman wins back his Universal Championship, come Sunday.

So yes, the betting odds back Wyatt and it make sense for “The Fiend” to be protected but this is also a Triple Threat Match which means Wyatt will not have to be pinned or submitted to lose his championship. When it comes to a big shocking character change like the one Roman’s going through, in my opinion, you need to strike while the iron’s hot, so I hope WWE pulls the trigger and gets the belt back on Roman.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match Betting Odds and Prediction

The Golden Role Models (Bayley and Sasha Banks) (c) vs. Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

The story of Bayley and Sasha Banks’ seemingly doomed friendship may be the best WWE story in a long time as they continue to drop hints and shade at each other. Last Week at SummerSlam, Sasha helped Bayley retain her title but Bayley didn’t return the favor and Sasha ended up losing hers.

This week on Smackdown, Bayley said the mistake was that Sasha should’ve never challenged for the title in the first place and that Bayley allowed Sasha to do this because Bayley could tell Sasha was jealous of Bayley having two titles (ouch). The key moment from this week’s Smackdown was when Sasha was addressing the challengers for the tag team titles and said “This Sunday, I will get my Payback” but instead of looking at her opponent she looked at Bayley while saying this (we love, foreshadowing).

The betting odds favor Baszler and Jax (-150) over The Golden Role Models (+110) and considering how ominous that line of dialogue from Sasha was I agree with them. No matter how it goes down, I think Sasha and Bayley will lose the tag team championships This Sunday.

Could we also see Bayley finally turning her back on Sasha or Sasha finally losing her cool and leaving Bayley’s side? We don’t know, if anything we know they’re not rushing this story but at the very least we know we have reached a key moment in it.

Payback United States Championship Match Betting Odds and Prediction

Apollo Crews (c) vs. Bobby Lashley – United States Championship Match

This year has been really a turnaround year for both Apollo Crews and Bobby Lashley. Crews got big opportunities this Summer and finally won his first singles championship in WWE, a championship he has held for about a hundred days already. Meanwhile, Lashley found a fresh start alongside MVP and–along with Shelton Benjamin–they have formed the new faction called “The Hurt Business.”

The career renaissance these three men have had is truly wonderful to watch and while MVP has been wonderful during the pandemic era of WWE it makes more sense to put the championship on someone like Lashley. The betting odds agree by favoring the challenger (-250) over the champion (+170).

It also makes sense to put the championship on Lashley and Co. when you’re riding a wave of momentum like they are. It would be a great move for business to have them dominate, and for someone like Apollo—who is a likeable babyface–it makes sense for him to chase that title again and work hard to take down a big villainous faction like The Hurt Business.

(Keep an eye out for people like Cedric Alexander and Ricochet during this match as they seem to be part of this storyline and MVP is adamant in recruiting one of these young men. There is a possibility they could be the key ingredient in this championship match up if WWE decided to follow through).

And that does it for the predictions for the somewhat rushed, WWE Payback. You can join me on twitter (@its_kerby) and subscribe to my YouTube Channel (/TheWrestlingSpace) for more wrestling, until next time wrestling fans, Stay Safe!

THE HORROR SHOW AT EXTREME RULES Predictions and Betting Odds

By: Kerby Rodriguez

The Horror Show seems like a fitting name for a show taking place in this horror show of a year known as 2020 and yet here we are approaching The Horror Show at Extreme Rules and it somehow feels silly. Silly seems to be a recurring theme in WWE, especially on this upcoming card which will feature a “Swamp Match” and an “Eye for an Eye match,” which is heavily implying the only way to win is to pull your opponent’s eye out.

Silly is not exactly a bad thing in professional wrestling but you have to find a balance that lies somewhere in between the masterpiece that was AEW’s Stadium Stampede back in May and whatever The Horror Show at Extreme Rules will end up being. But putting the silliness of it all aside, let’s try to break down this show in a serious way by looking at the Betting Odds for THE HORROR SHOW AT EXTREME RULES and I will also give my predictions.

Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler – WWE Championship Match Prediction and Odds

So here’s the thing, this match is supposed to have a stipulation but the challenger (Ziggler) is the one who’s supposed to choose it and he’s decided to keep it a secret until the actual match starts (it’s rumored to be a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match). In other words, WWE either forgot to announce the stipulation on Raw or they’re not sure what stipulation to choose.

Either way, this is your safe bet, Ziggler is the designated challenger for the WWE Champion to beat during the summer before starting a big program for SummerSlam (he feuded with Kofi for the title this time last year as well) and the betting odds prove this by favoring McIntyre (-2000) over Ziggler (+700). Albeit with no fans to back him, Drew’s having a fantastic WWE Championship reign and he seems to be on a collision course with Raw’s top heel, Randy Orton. The two of them are more than likely going to hit the squared circle at SummerSlam so let’s all get on the McIntyre Train to Claymore County.

WWE Championship Match Prediction: Drew McIntyre

Asuka (c) vs. Sasha Banks – Raw Women’s Championship Match Prediction and Odds

This is perhaps the biggest match on the card and the most well-built one as well. These two are definitely going to steal the show but there’s a story within a story here and that’s the inevitable collision between current tag team champions, Sasha Banks and Bayley.

We have been waiting for this feud for years and it seems to (a.) be finally happening and (b.) being built up in the perfect way (as opposed to when they made Sasha and Bayley go to couple’s therapy for some reason a couple years ago). And because we’re expecting Sasha to eventually dethrone Bayley as Smackdown Women’s Champion the betting odds favor the Raw Women’s Champion in this match. Asuka (-300) could be on her way to a big SummerSlam match while Sasha Banks (+200) will continue to build on all the small little hints of dissention she’s been planting with Bayley.

Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins – An Eye for an Eye Match Predictions and Odds

Let me remind you that the end goal of this match will be to pull your opponent’s eye out and that it is being discussed which type of CGI will allow WWE to pull this off. Now does that sound like a crazy train wreck? Probably, but I can assure you it will be the kind where you won’t be able to look away. Honestly, the curiosity of how they’re going to pull this off and what the fallout from it will be is great television (like, if Rollins loses will he just continue to go around with an eye patch?). There are so many questions that can only be answered from watching this match and seeing how this unfolds.

The betting odds favor Rollins (-150) over Mysterio (+110) and there are a couple of reasons I agree with them. First off, it has been reported that Mysterio is currently working with WWE without a contract and him and Mr. McMahon can’t agree on a number for Rey to renew his contract.

Therefore, this match and the blinding stipulation of it may be a way to write Mysterio off WWE. Secondly, ever since turning heel, Seth Rollins hasn’t actually won a big match: he lost the tag team championships back in March, lost to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania and lost to Drew McIntyre at Money in the Bank. That is why it seems fitting for Rollins to finally score the big win his Messiah character needs by literally ripping Mysterio’s eye out.

And that’s it for the predictions for Sunday’s HORROR SHOW AT EXTREME RULES event (what a silly, silly name). 2020 WWE Money in the Bank Predictions and Betting Odds

2020 WWE Money in the Bank Predictions and Betting Odds Preview

By: Kerby Rodriguez

We continue to walk through this extremely surreal experience and adjust to this new era of professional wrestling that while terrible, may become our new normal for the rest of the year. WWE (an essential service company) presents Money In The Bank, Live (partially) This Sunday from two locations. The signature Money In The Bank Ladder Match will take place from WWE Corporate Headquarters in Stamford, CN and the rest of the card will take place from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

There’s obviously a lot to unpack here so not only are we taking a look at the Money in the Bank betting odds and my predictions to win these matches but I feel the need to also include a walk through as to how “the most unique MITB Ladder Match in historyä” will work.

The Money In The Bank Ladder Match Odds

In any other circumstances we would be getting two separate MITB Ladder Matches: one featuring 6 women and one featuring 6 men. While this year we do have 6 men and 6 women who are scheduled to participate in the MITB Match we have come to find out that the matches will both take place AT THE SAME TIME! That is right, 12 participants total will be competing for their respective briefcase all at the same time.

The way this match has been broken down is this one: all 12 participants will begin the match on the first floor of WWE Headquarters and fight their way to the top floor. On the roof there will be a ring set up and above that ring the two briefcases will hang. While on the roof, the match settles into normal MITB rules with ladders available at ringside and the first one to unhook their respective briefcase will walk out the victor. Got that? Good.

On the men’s side it will be Rey Mysterio vs. Aleister Black vs. Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin vs. Otis vs. AJ Styles

And the women’s match will feature Shayna Baszler vs. Asuka vs. Nia Jax vs. Dana Brooke vs. Carmella vs. Lacy Evans

Breaking Down the Money in the Bank Odds on the Men’s and Women’s Side

On the men’s side, the betting odds are backing AJ Styles and on the Women’s Side the Betting Odds back Shayna Baszler. These two are also my prediction to win these matches on Sunday. The concept of MITB is tailored for a villain who will wait until the heroic champion is down and take the opportunity. Although we have seen babyfaces use the briefcase in the past in heroic ways, the lack of an audience leaves more opportunity for a villain to either use it rather quickly and get theirs or, dare I say, wait the full year and be showered in boos when they cash in on a show that has an audience.

Shayna Baszler should’ve won at WrestleMania, but I guess cashing in on a wounded Becky Lynch could add more heat while keeping Lynch safe because she wasn’t ready. The Raw Women’s division needs a new big name to counter Becky and that name’s Shayna; I don’t know exactly what’s taking them so long to pull the trigger on her but hey, third’s time the charm, right?

AJ Styles is the biggest name among the villains in the match, it is being reported he was brought back because he’s a draw and these audience-less shows are losing WWE a lot of ratings every week. While some people could make the case for Baron Corbin to win this because he’s “a legit heel,” I make the case that WWE needs a big name to work alongside McIntyre that draws an audience. Styles cashing in on Drew and stealing his big moment makes a lot of sense and it’s a rivalry that could carry Raw through The Summer.

Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins – WWE Championship Match Odds

Drew’s technically second defense of the WWE Championship comes in the form of the man who has been a staple of the Raw main event scene for a long time, Seth Rollins. The Messiah may have lost at WrestleMania, but he somehow found himself in a World Title feud after (funny how WWE works sometimes). I feel Drew is doing a heck of a job as a babyface World Champion in the middle of these crazy times; he connects with the audience and looks like a damn larger than life monster so of course the betting odds favor him (-600).

I agree with the odds as well here as Drew should not lose the title just yet; the Raw audience (which continues to decline) is not ready for what a Seth Rollins title reign could bring (very long promos). Also, there is an element here that we’re forgetting which is The Kevin Owens of it all. I feel using Owens to perhaps cost Rollins the title would bring their story full circle and help WWE out of the hole they dug here.

Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt – Universal Championship Match Odds

Speaking of easy cop outs. Braun Strowman is the Universal Champion and he’s facing the normal version of Bray Wyatt instead The Fiend. In the latest betting odds as of this writing, this match is even Strowman (-120), Wyatt (-120) and it truly could go either way. Wrestling Journalists are saying WWE wants to go back to Wyatt as champion and continue what they had before WrestleMania, but having Strowman face the normal version of Wyatt could be an easy way out.

If the WWE decided to go this route, they can have Strowman retain at Money in the Bank, drag the rivalry on for another month until Strowman faces, and eventually falls, to The Fiend. In my choice I’m going to go for Wyatt purely because I have never really connected with Strowman and feel he is an uninteresting champion. This toss up of a match is what you should keep an eye on This Sunday.

And there you have it, those are the predictions for Sunday’s MITB event. Join me on twitter (@its_kerby) this Sunday to live tweet the show with me and I’ll see you guys soon with the predictions for the upcoming AEW Double or Nothing event. Stay Safe everyone.

WWE Deemed “Essential Business” In Florida

Orange County Mayor says WWE is an “essential business” in Florida

Yesterday, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said the WWE will now qualify as an essential business in Florida. This means that the company can resume recording live Television Shows at its Orlando training facility and at Full Sail University in Winter Park.

The decision was highlighted in a memo that came from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis on April 9th. The memo approved the addition of professional sports and sports media production teams to the list of “essential services” in the State of Florida. According to the memo, this will cover “employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience… only if the location is closed to the general public.” According to a spokesperson from the Governor’s office, these services were deemed essential “because they are critical to Florida’s economy.”

Mayor Demings said the WWE was not originally designated as essential when the state’s shelter-in-place order took effect on April 3rd. However, that decision was overturned after Demings had “some conversation” with the Governor’s Office.

The WWE will return with its Raw Program on Monday. A spokesperson confirmed with ESPN that the WWE will run live shows without fans for the time being. The WWE will be airing three TV shows a week: Raw (USA Network), NXT (USA Network) on Wednesday and SmackDown (Fox) on Friday.
