Chelsea vs Sevilla Match Predictions

Having already qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, Chelsea may consider resting several starters in their dead rubber match against fellow Group E qualifiers Sevilla on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea secured their passage into the next round with their late 2-1 win against Rennes while Sevilla 2-1 win away to Krasnodar was enough to earn qualification.

Chelsea have had an impressive run of results, with their last and only loss in the Premier League coming way back in September against Liverpool.

They’ve gone on an eight-match unbeaten run which has catapulted them to third in the table, just two points behind second place Liverpool and league leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

A player who is set to start against Sevilla is one Callum Hudson-Odoi who’s experienced a mixed start to the season.

He’s been in and out of the squad despite positive performances, especially in the Champions League where he’s featured in all four group stage games.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard said he spoke to Hudson-Odoi about his decision not to include him in the matchday squad against Tottenham last week despite the youngster netting against Rennes just five days prior.

“It was hard not to include him in the Tottenham game,” Lampard said. “His attitude is bang on, his work ethic, so it was a tough decision to make. When you have a top squad, fully fit, as we do now, it’s tough to leave out four or five players a game who are desperate to play, so I spoke to him personally.

“I wanted him to see that. He’s in progression and the main thing is that he stays positive. He took it well. His reaction in training was great.

“It’s not nice to tell someone he’s not in the squad but I have to see the bigger picture and he has hundreds of games ahead of him. In the short term he might not like it, I get that.”

Sevilla have the opportunity to put themselves in a good position to top the group if they can manage a result at home on Wednesday and Lampard was particularly positive about the Spanish side and what they offer on the pitch.

“We felt that when they played at Stamford Bridge, it was a difficult match for us. They have a really great coach, it is very evident when you watch his teams play that he is a top coach, with the style of the team, the work he must do behind the scenes.

“They have a lot that reminds me of Premier League teams in terms of their attributes, the physicality, the speed of their game, with their willingness to cross balls into the box and the energy in their team. I expect it to be a tough match.”

With both sides through to the next round, I see this match ending in a 1-1 stalemate with Chelsea retaining their place at the top of Group E. Sportsbooks odds on a Sevilla home win open at +180. Odds on a Chelsea win open at +155. Odds on a draw open at +230.

Rennes v Chelsea Betting Prediction for Matchday Four

Chelsea can become the first side to qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League if they beat Rennes on Tuesday evening.

The Blues top the group with seven points and are ahead of Sevilla on goal difference. And who do the Blues play in Spain next week? Sevilla of course.

As for this matchup, Chelsea beat Rennes in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge 3-0 with Timo Werner netting a brace of penalties with Tammy Abraham adding a third in the second half.

Frank Lampard’s side has experienced a rejuvenation of sorts with the introduction of summer signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell to the side after respective injuries have improved Chelsea on both the defensive and offensive side of the pitch.

Chelsea are on a three-game winning streak and are unbeaten in seven league games as they sit third in the Premier League table.

When Lampard was asked how he guided the team to an improved defensive record over the last two months, Lampard put it to improvements of small margins within the team.

“We have coached, and we have assessed the main areas of where we conceded. Some were mistakes in the games, like Southampton and West Brom.

“Sometimes it is small margins, but what has gone up is the concentration of the team and the work and personnel helps that. The collective has to be the most important thing.”

Mason, Chelsea’s The Man on a Mission

One player who’s been an integral part of Lampard’s squad this season is academy graduate Mason Mount.

The England hasn’t been without his fair share of criticism this season and has been labelled as a favourite of Lampard to include in the first eleven even after poor performances.

Lampard voiced his praise for Mount and how important he is on the pitch.

“Every individual is different. We have a huge fan base and social media has changed criticism. He makes really efficient decisions; he presses more than any midfielder I have seen. I know that he has a lot to improve on, but he is a quality football player and is only going to get better. Any player doesn’t get favoritism, especially when there is competition in the squad.”

Chelsea Betting Prediction Against an Overmatched Rennes Squad

Chelsea are overwhelming favorites tonight against Rennes and it’s not just based on Chelsea’s good form.

Rennes have lost three of their last four games in Ligue 1 and are scoreless in their last two games. They’re yet to win a game in the UEFA Champions League as they sit bottom of Group E.

I think Chelsea win in a convincing fashion in France with Tammy Abraham scoring as he continues his good form.

Odds on Chelsea scoring the win open at -200. Odds on Rennes winning their first game in the Champions League open at +500. Odds on a draw between the two sides open at +350.

Newcastle United v Chelsea Betting Prediction for Week 9

With the second international break now completed, Premier League fans can rejoice once again as club football returns this weekend. The increased risk of injury and players catching COVID-19 made the already annoying international break just that little bit more unbearable.

However, the wait is over, and we won’t have to suffer another international break until March!

Chelsea kick things off this weekend in the early kick-off as they play visitors to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

It’s another strange decision to schedule a game at 12:30pm when a vast majority of Chelsea’s players have been on international duty with some only arriving back in England in the last couple of days.

The Big Wigs Agree; The EPL Schedule is Bonkers

Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have been major critics of the Premier League schedule this season and Frank Lampard echoed his colleagues’ thoughts on the schedule and put forth the question on how important the early kick-off games are in the Premier League.

“I have to be honest with it and I will be honest with it,” Lampard added. “If you’re talking about any team in the Premier League, we’ve been training with four players generally in the last two weeks, so the majority of our squad have been travelling.

“Some are travelling and just landing now. They will travel again to fly up to Newcastle. They will travel back from Newcastle. They will fly to Rennes on Monday. They will fly back from Rennes.

“When you look at the scheduling, for me, it’s just a common sense factor. I don’t think the broadcasters have ever had as many slots for games as they have now. That 12.30pm slot, how much does it need to be there?”

Chelsea will be without Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva as they look to continue their good form in the Premier League. They’ve lost just once this season and have gone six games unbeaten in the league so far.

Chelsea Betting Prediction against a Mediocre Newcastle Side

Chelsea have lost just once this season in all competitions as it looks as if they’ve hit their stride this season, but constant injury troubles could lead them down a path where playing a consistent first XI could be a difficulty for Frank Lampard.

They’ve won their last two games 3-0 and 4-1 against Burnley and Sheffield United, respectively with three clean sheets in their last five games.

They can however go top of the table with a win against a Newcastle side who’ve suffered their fair share of ups and downs this season.

The Magpies sit 13th in the league with three wins, three losses and two draws. The biggest problem Newcastle have is consistency. In each of their three wins this season, they followed it up with a loss, giving them no chance to build any type of momentum.

Newcastle are a team that can shock and surprise you week after week and I think they get a draw at home against Chelsea, bouncing back from their 2-0 defeat to Southampton before the international break.

Sportsbooks odds on a Chelsea win open at -222. Odds on a Newcastle win open at +550. Odds on a draw between the two sides open at +375.
