2020 Stanley Cup Odds/NHL Championship Odds: At this Point, Who Knows?
By: Ryan Gilbert
The NHL season and race for the 2020 Stanley Cup is ramping up as the month of March continues. The Tampa Bay Lightning remain among the favorites, while a favorite longshot of ours has surged up the charts.
Let’s take a look at some of the top teams worth betting on.
2020 STANLEY CUP
[table id=515 /]
Tampa Bay Lightning (92 points; Stanley Cup Odds: +750)
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s odds to win the 2020 Stanley Cup have gone back up to +750 from +475 last week, which provides some more value. At +475 they were still bettable, but this is a good revelation for bettors that want to get in on the action.
The Lightning have gone 2-1-1 in March. They lost 2-1 to the Boston Bruins (the Stanley Cup favorites at +550) to open the month, but avenged that with a 5-3 win in Boston a few nights later after also beating the Montreal Canadiens in a 4-0 shutout. Most recently, they lost in a shootout to the lowly Detroit Red Wings on the second half of a back-to-back set.
Not a ton has happened that would cause the Lightning’s odds to go back to +750, so get in on them while you can before they go on another winning streak and we see their odds back toward +475.
Vegas Golden Knights (84 points; NHL Championship Odds: +1000)
The Vegas Golden Knights don’t quite have the same record this season as the Lightning, sitting eight points behind them, but where they play has a large factor in their chances to win the Stanley Cup.
Most of the best teams in the league this season are in the Eastern Conference. The Golden Knights are one of the few teams in the Western Conference with a realistic chance to win the Cup.
The Golden Knights should be able to breeze past the first two rounds of the playoffs against their Pacific Division foes, which is big in the playoffs. On the other hand, teams in the Eastern Conference will have to play strong teams each step of the way.
The Golden Knights are worth the +1000 odds placed on them if you want a horse in the Western Conference.
Philadelphia Flyers (87 points; Stanley Cup Odds: +1400)
The Philadelphia Flyers are still, well, flying. They are in the midst of a nine-game winning streak and are within a point of first place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Flyers have depth at every position and a young goalie that is playing great in Carter Hart.
We were in on the Flyers over a month ago when their odds were a lot longer, but +1400 is still a great value for the team that one model has as the favorites (12% chance) to win the Stanley Cup.
