MLS Game of the Week Preview-Week 30 Odds

New England Revolution v New York City FC

09/30/19, 10:00 PM Kick-Off (GMT)

2019/20 MLS Season Week 30

MLS Game of the Week Odds Between Eastern Conference Rivals

New York City FC has risen to the top of the Eastern Conference with six wins in their last eight games. They’ve been in red-hot form for the past month which has given them a four-point lead over second-place Atlanta United.

NYC FC has already confirmed their playoff place for the MLS Cup and is now in prime position to qualify for the Conference semi-finals and the CONCACAF Champions League. With NYC six points ahead of 3rd placed Philadelphia Union, a win against the 7th placed New England Revolution will mathematically confirm their qualification for the CONCACAF Champions League.

Despite an injury to New York’s top scorer Heber in their 3-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps on August 31st, they’ve fared relatively well without their talisman. In the four games he’s missed, they’ve won two and tied two, with one of those wins coming against Saturday opponents, New England Revolution.

Sportsbooks odds on a New York City FC open at +150quite low odds considering New York are top of the conference and that they beat the Revolution just weeks ago. For a team that’s unbeaten in eight, these are odds you want to take advantage of. Especially since they are coming up against a New England Revolution side that’s won just one game in their last eight.

New England Revolution are in Dangerously Poor Form

After an impressive middle part of the season, making up for their poor start, the Revs are in danger of losing a playoff place they worked incredibly hard to get back. Their last win was on the 24th of August and they’ve won two matches since the 27th of July.

Their defense has also been a problem for them in recent games, keeping a clean sheet just once in the last nine games. Despite their poor form, sportsbooks has odds on a New England Revolution win opening at +137.

Surprisingly, their odds will provide less of a pay-out than a New York City win, which would be down to New England’s need to win the game to get one step closer to locking down the 7th playoff place, while NYC has already qualified.

Carles Gil’s form has been up and down alongside his team. Gil has failed to score in his last six games for New England. Gustavo Bou has continued his good form for the Revolution, scoring 7 league goals in just 886 minutes, giving him a ratio of 0.71 goals per 90 minutes.

Sportsbooks has a tie opening at odds of +307.

It’s hard to see anyone stop NYC FC on the form they are on now, however, the Revolution has no chance but to win this game, and that’s what I think they’ll do.
