2019/20 Premier League Season, Week 38
Manchester City will end their 2019/20 Premier League campaign at home to an already relegated Norwich City side. It has been a campaign filled with disappointment for Man City who failed to register a proper defense of their Premier League title as Liverpool won in record time with seven games to go.
Man City have been plagued with inconsistent all season but have found remnants of their old self as they’re currently on a four-match winning streak for the first time this season. They’ve beaten Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion both 5-0, as well as a 4-0 win over Watford and a close 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
Their latest result, the 4-0 win over Watford secured the fourth win in a row and set them up in good spirits as they host Norwich City in what sadly is a terrible way to leave the Premier League for Norwich City.
Manchester City Odds to Crush Norwich in the Finale
This Norwich side never really had a chance this season. With minimal spending in the transfer market and a heavy reliance on youth in their starting line-up, Norwich never had the requisite experience to deal with playing Premier League outfits week in and week out.
They’ve won the least amount of games in the Premier League this season (5), lost the most (26), scored the least (26) and conceded the most (70). They’re currently on their worst stretch of form this season with nine straight defeats with just one goal scored in that span.
Of their five wins, Manchester City was Norwich’s second of the season in a famous win for The Canaries back in September. They now make the trip to Manchester where City has scored 16 goals in their last four games.
Aside from Norwich City’s win against Man City in their last fixture, Norwich has just one win against Man City in their previous 13 fixtures, losing nine times, winning once and drawing three times.
Sportsbooks odds on City claiming a very much likely win on the final day of the season opens at -1400, yes that’s a real bet. Odds on Norwich doing the double over Man City opens at +2500. Odds on a draw between the two teams open at +1200.
Just How Angry Will Manchester City be Next Season?
My guess is that Manchester City will be quite angry for their showing this season plus all the praise Liverpool have been receiving for their title win. Pep Guardiola made a comment this week on how the “awards are always for Liverpool”.
He’s making the point that despite City winning the title in both 2017/18 and 2018/19, a City player was not awarded the PFA Player of the Year award, that award instead went to Liverpool players Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk.
I definitely get where Pep is coming from but when you amass a squad like City and spend the money it took to acquire these players; nobody is going to feel sorry for you.
City is nevertheless a class team and will come back stronger next season and I expect quite a few more 7-0 and 8-0 victories in their favor.
