Sheffield United v Liverpool FC
09/28/19, 12:30 PM Kick-Off (BST)
2019/20 Premier League Season, Week 7
Liverpool Odds Against Sheffield United
Liverpool became the first team in Premier League history to win their first six games of the season in consecutive years. Liverpool achieved that feat last Sunday, defeating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in a hotly-contested match.
Liverpool are also on a 15-match winning streak in the Premier League, dating back to last season. They are in their best form imaginable and will prove to be a hugely difficult task for newly-promoted Sheffield United, despite their encouraging start to the new Premier League season.
Sheffield United should be very pleased with their start to the new season, currently placed 10th, with two wins, two draws and two losses in their first six games of the season. United are coming off a 2-0 away victory against Everton in which Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder called their 2-0 win their “worst performance of the season”, demonstrating the high standards he has for his team.
Despite their good start, sportsbooks’ odds on a Sheffield United win open at +800. While odds on a Liverpool victory open at -333, according to sportsbooks. Sportsbooks odds on a tie between the teams open at +450.
The last match-up between Sheffield United and Liverpool in all competitions came all the way back in 2007 when United were last back in the Premier League, losing 4-0 to Liverpool at Anfield. They did however tie their last home game to Liverpool 1-1, back in the 2006/07 season.
Liverpool’s Dominance when Scoring first
Liverpool rarely lose or tie a game when scoring first nowadays, and during their 2-1 win over Chelsea, a shocking stat came to light. In Liverpool’s last 60 Premier League games where they have scored first, they have won 51 of those games, tied nine and lost nine.
It’s a testament to the resolve that manager Jurgen Klopp has instilled within the team through his philosophy and Klopp’s own mental strength alongside the strong-minded players he’s brought into the club such as Alisson, Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho, who have helped Liverpool possess one of the most feared spines in Europe.
Liverpool’s ability to win games when their star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane aren’t on top form, is a key part of their make-up. Yesterday, right back Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a wonderful free-kick while left back Andrew Robertson put the ball on a plate for Roberto Firmino to easily head home past Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Firmino now has three goals in the Premier League and according to sportsbooks, odds on the Brazilian to score opens at +120. Salah and Mane who both went scoreless in the win over Chelsea win, have odds to score against Sheffield United opening at -160 for Salah and -110 for Mane, respectively.
Sheffield United haven’t had a player this season to score more than one Premier League this season therefore goals will be a problem, however in their two wins over Crystal Palace and Everton this season, they kept clean sheets, so they may have to tip their hat to more defensive work against Liverpool rather than attacking wise.
