As we approach Week 4, we look at how the EPL odds have affected the top of the table
It’s no surprise that approaching Week 4 of the 2019/20 Premier League season, early league leaders Liverpool and current Premier League Champions Manchester currently and will most likely continue to be the sportsbooks favorite for the entire season.
Despite Liverpool coming off an impressive 3-1 victory over Arsenal last week, sportsbooks have increased their 2020 Premier League Title odds from +200 to +250. The odds are bound to be up and down every week purely due to the unpredictability of the Premier League.
While champions Manchester City who got back to winning ways after 3-1 away victory over Bournemouth last week, sportsbooks have Man City going back to back at -225, an increase from last week’s odds of -200.
Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne’s return to peak form this early on during the season may be the reason for the increase in their title odds. De Bruyne has four assists already this season and is arguably the best player in the Premier League following the departure of Eden Hazard this summer to Real Madrid.
De Bruyne’s link-up with Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero is as deadly as any midfield-forward combo we’ve seen in the Premier League and the world.

The EPL Odds and the Best of the Rest Looking to Capture the Title
Tottenham Hotspur, who are the 3rd best team in the league may have already written off their title chances after losing to Newcastle at home last Sunday. Tottenham have now won four of their last 16 Premier League and those four wins have come against teams in the bottom half and the newly promoted Aston Villa who they beat on the opening day of the season.
Sportsbooks, therefore, has Tottenham winning the 2020 Premier League Title at +3300. The defeat against Newcastle obviously had a huge effect as Spurs’ odds were at a reasonable +2000.
Even with staggering odds of +3300, they still remain sportsbooks third most likely team to win 2020 Premier League Title with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all tied at +5000, according to sportsbooks.
Manchester United was another team to lose a home match last weekend, conceding a late winner from Patrick Van Aanholt to give Crystal Palace their first-ever Premier League win at Old Trafford.
While Frank Lampard and Chelsea got their first win of the season defeating Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road in an enthralling contest. Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham got his first goals for the club alongside a lovely finish from fellow Chelsea youngster Mason Mount.
Arsenal put up a valiant effort in their 3-1 loss to Liverpool but looks primed for a top 4 spot this season.
Liverpool and Manchester City remain the sportsbooks favorites for the 2020 Premier League Title while Tottenham Hotspur takes a step back from being a reasonable bet to a bona fide long shot. However, if I was asked to choose a dark horse out of the best of the rest vying at the top of the table, it would be Tottenham, but note, I am definitely less confident in them now than I was last week.
