2020 Premier League Title Odds Preview Week 3

After the first two rounds of the 2019/20 Premier League season, the Premier League Odds continue to place Manchester City and Liverpool FC as favorites

Manchester City and Liverpool remain the sportsbooks favorites to win the 2020 Premier League Title after the first two rounds of the season. A strong start from both teams where Liverpool lead the league currently has sportsbooks on notice who’ve decreased Liverpool’s odds to win the 2020 Premier League Title just two weeks into the season.

On August 10th, 2019, the sportsbooks had Liverpool’s 2020 Premier League Title Odds at +400, the second-best odds in the league, after current champions Manchester City. However, after winning their first two league games of the Premier League season and clinching the UEFA Super Cup Trophy over rivals Chelsea, sportsbooks has slashed those odds to +200.

Despite Liverpool’s recent favourable odds, Manchester City remain the sportsbooks favorite with their 2020 Premier League Title odds opening up at -200. This, however, is an increase from the 10th of August 2019 where Man City’s odds were at -142.90. A combination of Liverpool’s early season form added to the long-term injury of Man City star Leroy Sane may have attributed to City’s change in odds.

The Best of the Rest Looking to Capture the EPL Title Odds

Aside from Chelsea, the other top teams in the Premier League have made a strong start. Manchester United, who entered the season with odds of +1000 to win the 2020 Premier League Title, thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in their first game of the season and were a Paul Pogba penalty miss away from defeating Wolves, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Despite an encouraging start, sportsbooks didn’t take much notice of it and they currently have Man United winning the 2020 Premier League Title at +3300.

Tottenham Hotspur, who managed to claw a 2-2 draw against Manchester City last weekend thanks to VAR, have the least unrealistic odds compared to those of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. Sportsbooks have Tottenham winning the 2020 Premier League at +2000.

While Arsenal and Chelsea, who are teams expected to duke for a top four finish rather than Premier League Title have quite astronomical odds, however, it’s for a very good reason.

Chelsea lost the best player in the Premier League in Eden Hazard last summer and due to a summer transfer ban enforced by FIFA, they were unable to bring anybody in. Still without a win this season, sportsbooks have Frank Lampard’s Chelsea winning the 2020 Premier League Title at +5000. Arsenal, who did break their transfer record spending £72 million on forward Nicolas Pepe, failed to adequately fix their defensive woes which is why sportsbooks have Arsenal opening up at +3300, tied with Manchester United.

It’s highly unlikely that one of Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea will win the 2020 Premier League Title though I understand if bettors were to take a chance due to the potential winnings.

If I was to pick a dark horse who would provide a sizable profit, it would be Tottenham Hotspur. This is a team who’ve become a regular top three Premier League team and spent £63 million on midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this summer. It’s time for Tottenham to make that next step to win a trophy, something they’ve failed to do since 2008, and the 2020 Premier League Title might be that trophy to break their drought.
