Philadelphia Eagles Odds
Eagles coach Doug Pederson has never lost a season opener (4-0), including a rally to beat the Washington Football Team in 2019, when Philadelphia erased a 17-0 deficit.
The Eagles have a new look on offense but some of the same trouble spots must be proven to no longer be worries, including offensive line issues and a pecking order at wide receiver.
Jason Peters slides back to left tackle to protect the blindside of Carson Wentz but WFT is deep and talented up front with five first-round picks to apply heat to Wentz. That includes Washington’s top pick, second overall draft choice Chase Young.
The Eagles rested Miles Sanders but Pederson said Wednesday the team’s starting running back would be limited early in the season.
Philadelphia is also uncertain about right tackle Lane Johnson, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Without Johnson, Washington’s defensive line could live in the Eagles’ backfield.
Washington Football Team Odds
First-year coach Ron Rivera denies he’s monitoring a rebuilding job in D.C., but the roster indicates otherwise. With Adrian Peterson released this week, the listed starter at running back is former Seahawks castoff J.D. McKissic.
He’ll be asked to help advance the development of second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is known to blitz until the final whistle, but said this week he was surprised by Haskins’ mobility last season. Haskins had a two-touchdown, no-turnover game against the Eagles as a rookie.
Haskins said he’s down at least 20 pounds from his first-year playing weight of 230. He could be used in more moving pocket, rollout calls to get the Eagles out of position in their blitzing attack and will be looking for second-year WR Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin was 10th in the NFL with an average of 10.0 yards per touch in 2019, when he had 58 receptions for 919 yards, seven TDs and 15.8 yards per reception.
