Jets at Dolphins Betting Preview: Jets (+8.5/-105), Dolphins (-8.5/-115)

New York Jets

The Jets have limped out to an 0-5 start for the third time in franchise history and first time since 1996, when the club finished 1-15 under Rich Kotite. The current version under Adam Gase hasn’t been competitive on the field, and the beleaguered club opted to cut its losses two days after last Sunday’s 30-10 setback to Arizona by releasing former Pro Bowl running back Le’Veon Bell.

New York has dropped four of its five decisions in 2020 by double digits, and 11 of 21 in that capacity under Gase. The team has mustered all of six touchdowns this season, with Jamison Crowder’s score highlighting his season-high eight-catch, 116-yard performance versus the Cardinals.

Joe Flacco, 35, completed 18-of-33 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown last week in his first start in place of Sam Darnold (AC joint sprain). The ageless Frank Gore, who leads the team in carries (64) and rushing yards (204), will face a club with which he played in 2018.

Miami Dolphins

Ryan Fitzpatrick recorded a season-high 350 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions last Sunday as the Dolphins (2-3) posted their second win in three outings with a resounding 43-17 victory at San Francisco.

Fitzpatrick’s totals in yards, touchdowns and interceptions last week made him the second quarterback in franchise history to reach those totals — yes, the first was Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino.

Preston Williams, who had four receptions for a team-high 106 yards and a touchdown versus the 49ers, is showing signs of the form that drew promising reviews during his injury-shortened rookie season.

Fellow wideout DeVante Parker has club-best totals in catches (26) and receiving yards (329) and is tied with tight end Mike Gesicki and Williams with two touchdown receptions.

Myles Gaskin added 91 scrimmage yards (57 rushing, 34 receiving) out of the backfield on Sunday for Miami, which saw its defense make a statement with three turnovers and five sacks. Xavien Howard has recorded an interception in three straight games overall and also had one in the Dolphins’ 20-12 win over the Jets on Sept. 16, 2018.

Jets at Dolphins Betting Pick for Week 6

While Gase’s former club — the Dolphins — is tied for 13th in points per game (27.2), his current charges find themselves ranked dead last in points (75), average points per game (15.0) and average passing yards (176.0) among other categories.

The grass isn’t greener for Gase and Gang Green, and he’ll be reminded of that come Sunday.

Jets at Dolphins Betting Pick:

Dolphins 40, Jets 10

Jets at Dolphins Best Bet for Week 6

The Dolphins’ offense is gaining steam, while the Jets have sputtered along at an embarrassing clip. The narrative isn’t expected to change on Sunday, with AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Jason Sanders likely getting his kicks in to boot.

Jets at Dolphins Best Bet: OVER 47.5 (-110)
