Saints at Lions Betting Preview: Saints (-4/-110), Lions (+4/-110)
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees and Co. are putting points on the board at a 29.3 per-game clip, but the defense is just having a hard time stopping opposing offenses. The Raiders put 377 yards on them and 34 points in Week 2, while the Packers went for 369 yards and 37 points in Week 3. The Saints lost both games.
The 41-year-old Brees is 18th with 760 passing yards, but is ninth with a 70.2 completion percentage and seventh in adjusted QBR at 79.9. He appears to have plenty left in the tank, and it doesn’t hurt that he has running back Alvin Kamara, who has three rushing and three receiving TDs in three games.
The Saints are sixth in rushing defense (100.0 yards per game) but 20th in passing defense (252.0 ypg).
Detroit Lions
The Lions are feeling good after ending an 11-game losing streak Sunday against the Cardinals and they did it on the road no less against a solid team.
Matthew Stafford had 270 passing yards Sunday with two TDs but was sacked four times for the second consecutive week. The 12-year veteran is 10th with 811 yards passing. The Lions’ offense is led by another veteran in Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 75 yards on 22 carries against Arizona.
The Detroit defense had three interceptions Sunday but that was against a second-year player in Kyler Murray. The veteran Brees, who has fixed his interception issues in recent years, will pose an entirely different challenge.
Saints at Lions Betting Pick for October 4, 2020
The Lions’ defense is in the bottom five in yards allowed per game at 409.3 and among the worst three in rushing yards allowed (172.3).
Simply put, the Saints are too good to fall to 1-3 and Brees has no intention of digging out of a hole like that in his age 41 season.
Saints at Lions Betting Pick:
Saints 38, Lions 14
Saints at Lions Best Bet for Week 4
Expect the Saints to put points on the board and plenty of them as Brees gets New Orleans back on track and Kamara continues to produce after becoming the second player ever with three rushing and receiving TDs in the first three games of a season.
