Dolphins at Jets Betting Preview: Dolphins (-7/-103), Jets (+7/-120)
Rookie Tua Tagovailoa aims to rebound from being benched in a 20-13 loss to Denver on Sunday when he faces the Jets, against whom he made his NFL career debut on Oct. 18. The fifth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft completed both of his pass attempts in a cameo appearance to put the finishing touches on Miami’s 24-0 romp over New York.
The Dolphins (6-4) had won five in a row before more than being doubled up in total yards by the Broncos (459-223). DeVante Parker, who found the end zone for the second time in four games on Sunday, leads the team in catches (44) and receiving yards (523) while his four touchdown receptions are tied with injured Preston Williams for the club lead.
Salvon Ahmed has made the most of the injury absence of fellow rookie Myles Gaskin (knee), highlighted by his five-reception performance against Denver. Gaskin, who is eligible to return from injured reserve this weekend, rushed for 91 yards in the first meeting to help Miami improve to 5-1 in its last six encounters with New York.
New York Jets
Coach Adam Gase will look to record the Jets’ first win of the season against his former team, however his current charges have looked every bit the part of an 0-10 team. New York has surrendered at least 30 points in seven of those losses, including a 34-28 setback to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Joe Flacco completed just 47.7 percent of his passes for 186 yards with an interception in last month’s loss at Miami. The 35-year-old threw five touchdown passes over his next two starts, but Sam Darnold (shoulder) is “trending in the right direction” to start versus the Dolphins after returning to practice on Wednesday for the first time in nearly three weeks.
The ageless Frank Gore will lead a backfield that also will include Ty Johnson and practice squad call-up Josh Adams on Sunday after rookie La’Mical Perine (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. Gore posted a season-high 71 yards from scrimmage (61 rushing, 10 receiving) last week while finding the end zone for the first time this season.
Dolphins at Jets Betting Pick for Week 12
The Dolphins couldn’t have asked for a better opponent to get Tagovailoa back on his feet, considering the Jets rank second-to-last in scoring defense (30.2 per game) and 30th in passing yards (288.3).
While all eyes will be on the development of Tagovailoa for the future, Miami’s opportunistic defense likely will give New York fits on Sunday. The Dolphins are tied for third in the NFL in turnovers forced with 17, and that number likely will rise in what should be a convincing victory.
Dolphins at Jets Betting Pick: Dolphins 27, Jets 10
Dolphins at Jets Best Bet for Week 12
Gase continues to be on the hot seat with New York averaging NFL worsts in points per game (14.9), passing yards (170.0) and total yards (268.6). Those numbers likely aren’t going to get any better after Sunday.
Dolphins at Jets Best Bet: UNDER 44.5 total points (-110)
