Rams at Dolphins Betting Preview: Rams (-3/-120), Dolphins (+3/-102)
Los Angeles Rams
While the Rams’ offense played well Monday night, it was the defense that moved to the forefront in a 24-10 victory over the Bears. The Rams’ defense enters Week 8 second in points allowed per game at 17.7 and sixth in yards allowed per game at 312.9. Over the last six quarters, opposing offenses have scored six points against the Rams’ defense. The Bears had a defensive TD.
Quarterback Jared Goff is much improved after a throwaway 2019 season with 12 TD passes to four interceptions, but the running game is what has elevated the team’s play. The Rams (5-2) are seventh in the NFL with 138.9 rushing yards per game.
After struggling in the kicking game with rookie Sam Sloman, the Rams will turn to a local product. Sloman was released, with UCLA alum and eight-year NFL veteran Kai Forbath taking over the job.
The future is now as rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will make his first NFL start Sunday despite just five snaps to his credit. His baptism to the league figures to be rough while facing a Rams’ line led by two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald.
The Dolphins have rebounded from a slow start to win three of the last four games, but that was behind quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was benched after throwing 10 touchdown passes with seven interceptions. At 3-3, Miami is just two victories away from matching its 2019 total.
The Dolphins and Rams do have a mutual opponent. The Dolphins earned a 43-17 victory at San Francisco on Oct. 11 and the Rams lost 24-16 in the Bay Area one week later. Miami enters Sunday’s game well rested after its bye week.
Rams at Dolphins Betting Pick for Week 8
The Rams looked much improved while defeating the Bears on Monday, but it was just their first victory against a team outside of the lowly NFC East. The Rams’ 10 rushing touchdowns are third in the NFL.
The Dolphins are tied for sixth in the NFL with seven interceptions but are one of four teams yet to force a fumble. The Dolphins are 11-2 against the Rams all-time with the teams’ last meeting at Miami in 2012.
Rams at Dolphins Betting Pick:
Rams 28, Dolphins 17
Rams at Dolphins Best Bet for Week 8
The Rams have given mixed messages in the road, where they have been dealt both of their defeats, but the team’s top defense seems to be getting even better and figures to give Tagovailoa a rough time.
Miami’s best hope is if Tagovailoa takes advantage of the Rams’ aggressive pass rush and the rookie uses his legs at select moments.
Rams at Dolphins Best Bet: OVER 46 points (-110)
