Jaguars at Chargers Betting Preview: Jaguars (+7.5/-114)), Chargers (-7.5/-106)
On a five-game losing streak and with no signs that things are any closer to getting better, the Jaguars could be in for a rough trip to the opposite coast. Quarterback Gardner Minshew II is struggling to the tune of five interceptions during the losing streak while fumbling four times (losing three).
The Jacksonville offense has been held to 16 points or less in three of the last four games and the offense is fifth from the bottom in rushing yards with 536. They are 12th in the NFL with 4.4 yards per carry but have been unable to capitalize on their rushing offense because of large deficits.
As it that is not enough, Jacksonville is near the bottom with 1,624 total yards allowed. The team’s five sacks are tied with the Panthers for worst in the NFL.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers enter on a four-game losing streak, but after the dust settled following a heartbreaking overtime defeat at New Orleans on Oct. 12, the consensus is that their play behind rookie quarterback Justin Herbert is much improved.
Among quarterbacks with at least 100 passing attempts this season, Herbert’s 68.8 completion percentage is ninth, while his 107.1 passer rating is also ninth. The Chargers know they are better than their record indicates, losing two OT games and not losing a game by more than a touchdown.
They not only took the Saints to OT, but took the Kansas City Chiefs to an extra session as well in their home opener Sept. 20. Los Angeles is sixth against the run, giving up 538 yards. The defense figures to stack the line Sunday and dare the Jaguars to pass.
Jaguars at Chargers Betting Pick for Week 7
Well rested after a bye week, with a definitive plan on defense to load up against the run, as well as a quarterback on the rise, all signs point to the Chargers having a big day Sunday. Expect the hard-luck Chargers to come out with plenty of energy.
Minshew has eight TD passes during the team’s losing streak, but five have come with the game well in hand for the opponent. The Chargers most definitely saw how rushed Minshew appeared in a 34-16 defeat to the Detroit Lions on Sunday and will aim to make his day a miserable one.
Jaguars at Chargers Betting Pick:
Chargers 30, Jaguars 14
Jaguars at Chargers Best Bet for Week 7
If the Chargers can take control of the game with their defensive line, as expected, it would take the pressure off Herbert and the offense.
In turn, that would also give Los Angeles the chance to turn loose their running game, while eating up clock at the same time.
Jaguars at Chargers Best Bet: UNDER 49 total points (-110)
