Bears at Rams Betting Preview: Bears (+6), Rams (-6)
Although they are 5-1 on the season, the Bears are just 1-1 against teams with a record over .500. Following the Chicago tradition, the defense has made life hard on opponents, ranking seventh in both yards allowed (337.2 per game) and points allowed (19.2).
Quarterback Nick Foles has been playing within himself, not making mistakes and doing what it takes to win. He guided a 30-26 victory over the Atlanta Falcons when he came on in relief of Mitch Trubisky in Week 3 and has gone 2-1 as a starter since. Foles threw for 198 yards Sunday in a 23-16 victory over the Panthers with one TD and one interception.
This will be the third consecutive year the teams have met under the lights, and the Bears controlled the tempo in the previous two. Their defense was the star in a 15-6 home victory in 2018, but the Rams got the best of a 17-7 decision last year in L.A.
Los Angeles Rams
Much improved in 2020, the Rams suddenly shifted back into 2019 mode with their 24-16 road defeat to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. The Rams need to prove they can defeat a team outside of the terrible NFC East.
Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 198 yards, his lowest total of the season, and could not get in sync with favorite target Cooper Kupp (three catches, 11 yards). The Los Angeles defense game up 21 first-half points on Sunday before finding its identity again in the second half, but the offense could not follow.
As good as the Bears’ defense is, the Rams’ defense ranks fourth in the NFL at 318.5 yards allowed per game and fifth at 19 points allowed per game. Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald continues to do his thing, leading the NFL with 7.5 sacks, although he was unable to record one last week against the 49ers.
Bears at Rams Betting Pick for Week 7
The defenses appear to be on equal footing in 2020 as two of the best in the NFL so far. The difference, then, would seem to be that the Rams have more offensive firepower, even if the 49ers were able to derail them last week.
In their new $5 billion stadium, where they are 2-0, the Rams figure to move the ball just enough to win. This isn’t just about defeating the Bears, as the Rams will be out to prove that out-of-sync offense at San Francisco was just a fluke.
Bears at Rams Betting Pick:
Rams 24, Bears 17
Bears at Rams Best Bet for Week 7
If the Rams make the improvements from last week that are expected, they have enough offense to overcome a stout defense. The Bears, on the other hand, will be far more challenged to move the ball, even if Foles is in the midst of yet another revival.
Bears at Rams Best Bet: UNDER 45 total points (-110)
