Arizona Cardinals Odds
The Cardinals unveil a new wideout in DeAndre Hopkins, the star offseason acquisition they hoisted from the Houston Texans. Hopkins has exceeded 100 receptions three times and 1,000 yards on five occasions and gives second-year quarterback Kyler Murray a primetime target to connect with.
Murray aims to build on an impressive rookie campaign in which he passed for 3,722 yards and 20 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, while also adding 544 yards and four scores on the ground.
The Arizona defense is again led by star pass rusher Chandler Jones, who ranked second in the NFL with 19 sacks last season. Jones has 72.5 sacks over the past five seasons and quarterbacks always need to know where he is due to his propensity for forcing fumbles (eight in 2019).
The Cardinals allowed 30 or more points on seven occasions last season and need to become more stingy to improve on last season’s 5-10-1 record.
San Francisco 49ers Odds
The 49ers are aiming for a second straight Super Bowl berth after re-emerging as one of the NFC’s top clubs. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo passed for 3,978 yards, 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2019 in his first full season as a starter.
Garoppolo threw for four touchdowns in both of San Francisco’s wins over the Cardinals and racked up a career-high 424 yards in one of the games. Tight end George Kittle continues to get better and his 216 receptions and 2,945 yards since 2017 are the most by a tight end over his first three seasons in NFL history.
Cornerback Richard Sherman leads all active players with 35 interceptions and had three last season after going without one in 2018 in his first season with San Francisco. Defensive end Nick Bosa piled up 9.0 sacks and 16 tackles for loss as a rookie and figures to be able to top that now that he is accustomed to the league.
The stamina of star linebacker Fred Warner (team-best 118 tackles last season) is something to watch in Week 1 as he was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday.
Cardinals at 49ers Betting Pick for Week 1
San Francisco won both of last season’s meetings after losing eight straight to the Cardinals.
But who knows which teams are prepared and which ones are rusty due to the lack of the preseason. Look for Arizona to be more excited about the matchup and stun the defending Super Bowl runner up.
Cardinals at 49ers Betting Pick: Cardinals (+7), 49ers (-7)
Cardinals 30, 49ers 27
Cardinals at 49ers Best Bet
Definitely could be a feeling-out process as players hit the field for the first time this season.
Expect a close tight-to-the-vest first half before both teams open things up in the second half.
Cardinals at 49ers Best Bet: UNDER 24.5 for first half
