The three-day-long, virtual drafting process begins this evening
The long off-season wait for football’s next stars is over. The 85th NFL Draft will begin tonight starting at 8:00. Tonight will be the first round of the annual selection process. The draft will be held virtually for the first time in NFL History. The 2020 Draft was originally scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, NV live, but the NFL decided to move ahead with a virtual format for the safety and protection of players, staffers, and fans amid the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The NFL Draft is the league’s annual selection process where professional teams pick college players to join their franchise. The draft consists of 255 total selections in seven rounds. This year’s draft is spread across three days. The first-round will be held tonight, then the second and third round tomorrow, followed by rounds four through seven on Saturday.
The Miami Dolphins have the most picks in this year’s draft with 14 overall. Meanwhile, the Saints and Chiefs are tied at five for the fewest total picks. There are six teams that do not have a first-round pick tonight: Pittsburgh, the LA Rams, Chicago, Buffalo, Indianapolis, and Houston.
The Cincinnati Bengals have the first overall pick in the 2020 Draft. This will be the fourth time in team history that the Bengals have had the top choice in the draft and the first time drafting number one overall since 2003. There seems to be a consensus that LSU QB Joe Burrow will be who the Bengals take with the top pick. Bleacher Report, NFL.com, ESPN, and CBS Sports all predict Cincy winds up taking Joe Burrow, but we will find out tonight.
The NFL Draft will be airing live starting tonight on the NFL Network, ABC, and ESPN. The NFL will also be hosting “Draft-A-Thon Live,” a live-stream supporting COVID-19 relief efforts featuring former NFL Greats and other celebrities. Round One of the 2020 NFL Draft begins tonight at 8:00 PM EST.
