Saturday, Oct. 3, Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa, 7:30 p.m. ET

Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners had won seven consecutive Big 12 openers until blowing a 21-point second half lead in last week’s 38-35 loss to Kansas State. Spencer Rattler was 30 of 41 passing for 387 yards and four touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions and was sacked three times. Austin Stogner, Marvin Mims, and Charleston Rambo had five receptions each but only one, Stogner with 83 yards, had much in the way of yardage.

The team leader in receiving yards is Drake Stoops with 93 on three catches. Seth McGowan rushed 13 times for 73 yards but the Sooners had only a pedestrian 130 yards rushing as a team. Nik Bonitto, DaShaun White,  Brendan Radley-Hiles, Isaiah Thomas, and Brian Asamoth combined for five sacks.

Iowa State Cyclones

The Cyclones recovered from the stunning opening loss to Louisiana with a 37-34 win over TCU last week, recording six sacks to raise their season total to eight. JaQuan Bailey equaled the school single-game mark with 3.5, all in the first half. He also had 4.0 tackles for loss to tie Iowa State’s single-game record and raise his career total to a school-record 36.5.

Brock Purdy recovered from a miserable 16-of-35, 145-yards passing game against the Ragin’ Cajuns to go 18 of 23 for 211 against the Horned Frogs in improving to 12-5 against conference opponents. Breece Hall has picked up where he left off 2019 by rushing for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the two games. He rushed for 897 yards as a freshman last year with all but 84 yards coming over his last eight games.
