Jayhawks at Wildcats Betting Preview: Jayhawks (+19.5), Wildcats (-19.6)
The Jayhawks (0-4, 0-3 Big 12) got bad news this week when Pooka Williams, their No. 2 rusher with 196 yards behind Velton Gardner’s 225, opted out for the rest of the season for personal reasons.
“Today I made the very difficult decision to opt out of the rest of the season to be closer to my mother and family in Louisiana,” he tweeted. “Family and health are the most important things to me. Right now, I need to be with my mother, who is battling health issues.”
Williams rushed for 1,042 yards on 203 carries with three touchdowns in 2019 and 1,125 yards on 161 carries and seven touchdowns as a freshman in 2018.
The Jayhawks historically have dominated the series fur are only 5-24 in the last 29 meetings.
Kansas State Wildcats
Despite an 11-game winning streak in the series, the No. 20 Wildcats (3-1, 3-0 Big 12) still trail by a significant margin in the overall rivalry with the Jayhawks though there is a dispute about exactly where the series stands. The Jayhawk claim a 66-46-5 advantage, but the Wildcats say it is 64-48-5.
The Wildcats are looking to go 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2014 despite losing quarterback Skylar Thompson to a season-ending shoulder injury against Texas Tech.
Will Howard started against TCU and became K-State’s first true freshman quarterback to win his first road start, earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors following a victory over TCU. He was only eight of 19 passing for 117 yards against the Horned Frogs but rushed for a team-high 86 yards. He has completed half of his 32 attempts for the season for 314 yards.
Another freshman, Deuce Vaughn leads the offense with 238 yards rushing and 279 receiving.
