Seminoles at Fighting Irish Betting Preview: Seminoles (+21), Fighting Irish (-21)
Florida State Seminoles
Florida State will be breaking in a new quarterback Saturday with Louisville transfer Jordan Travis getting the starting nod after coming off the bench to complete 12 of 17 passes for 210 yards and a score in last week’s win over Jacksonville State.
He will be the third different starter at the position in four games for the Seminoles following James Blackman and Tate Rodemaker. Blackman has completed only 56.5 percent of his passes for 318 yards in two games. Rodemaker has completed 61.9 percent of his 21 pass attempts, but, like Blackman, has thrown two interceptions.
Offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham doesn’t see Travis as primarily a running threat, though he is second on the team in rushing with 139 yards.
“The thought that he couldn’t throw to begin with always was comical to me,” Dillingham said. “He can throw the football. He can throw the football really well.”
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
This will be the first game for the Irish since their win over USF on Sept. 19 as they have had to contend with coronavirus issues. They postponed a scheduled Sept. 26 game against Wake Forest and had an open date last week to extend their layoff to three weeks.
“In terms of identifying who is available, who’s not available, it’s an exercise that we’re not going to get into other than I can tell you this,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. “We have modified our schedule to make certain that we’re taking care of our guys first in terms of their health and then, secondly, preparing in a manner that allows us to get back our entire football team back intact.”
Ian Book has passed for 407 yards while completing 62 percent of his passes in Notre Dame’s wins over Duke and South Florida. Tommy Tremble has been the top target with eight catches for 104 yards, and Kyren Williams leads the rushers with 29 carries for 174 yards.
Seminoles at Fighting Irish Betting Pick for October 10, 2020
There are question marks for both teams as the Irish end a long layoff and the Seminoles come off a struggling win over an FCS opponent, but the overwhelming advantage goes to the Irish. The Seminoles hold a 6-3 advantage over the Irish in the series, but the Irish won the last meeting 42-13 in 2018.
Seminoles at Fighting Irish Betting Pick:
Fighting Irish 34, Seminoles 10
Seminoles at Fighting Irish Best Bet for October 10, 2020
The Irish have given up only 13 points in two games, the last a 52-0 romp past South Florida, and will make it difficult for the Seminoles to score. The ‘Noles put up 521 yards of total offense in their 41-14 win over Jacksonville State last week but trailed 21-14 at the half.
Seminoles at Fighting Irish Best Bet: UNDER 52.5
