Chanticleers at Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Preview: Chanticleers (+7), Ragin’ Cajuns (-7)
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
With three wins in three games, the Chanticleers are off to their best start in four seasons at the FBS level. They drubbed perennial Sun Belt West contender Arkansas State 52-23 in their last outing. They started the season with a 38-23 win at Kansas and in between handled Campbell 43-21.
Freshman quarterback Grayson McCall has passed for 728 yards and nine touchdowns and veteran C.J. Marable leads the ground attack with 190 yards.
Jaylon Heiligh has 12 receptions for 219 yards and Isaiah Likely is second in the nation in yards per catch with his 30.1 average.
“There’s a lot of excitement,” Marable said. “We’re hot right now. The only thing is we have to keep it a game at a time. Don’t make it bigger than what it is. Just go out there and play Coastal football.”
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns
The Cajuns are coming off an open date after squeaking by Georgia Southern 20-18 on Nate Snyder’s 53-yard field goal as time ran out in their game on Sept. 26. That made the Cajuns 3-0 for the first time since 1988.
But things have not been easy the last two games. After the 31-14 win at Iowa State in the opener, the Cajuns won in overtime at Georgia State and on the last play against Georgia Southern.
Levi Lewis has passed for 723 yards in the three games and needs 265 yards to reach the 5,000-yard level in passing yardage. “He can do everything,” coach Billy Napier said. “He can throw, he can run, he processes well, he’s got a big arm, and he’s accurate. He has done a good job for us so far.”
Running back Elijah Mitchell missed the Georgia Southern game because of COVID-19 issues after sparking the Cajuns to their comeback win the previoius week, and Chris Smith tweaked an ankle in the same game. Their status is unknown for Saturday.
Chanticleers at Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Pick for October 10, 2020
The Cajuns have yet to really be consistent offensively despite averaging nearly 410 yards in total offense per game. Mitchell picked them up late against Georgia State, but he was one of several players to sit out the win over Georgia Southern. He can make the difference for the Cajuns.
