Happy Monday NBA Fans. We welcome you back to our weekly discussion regarding the players with the best chance to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. As most of you know, Rudy Gobert – who has won the award in each of the last two seasons – was the early-season favorite to win the award.
But over the past few weeks, Anthony Davis had been leading the pack and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. So, without further delay, here’s an updated look at the players with the best odds to win the DPOY award based upon how they performed over the past week (Feb. 3 through Feb. 9).

The Third-Best NBA Defensive Player of the Year Odds: Giannis Antetokounmpo DPOY Odds (+650 – No Change)
The Milwaukee Bucks had three games on their slate over the past week and thanks to the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, they posted victories in each of those outings. In the team’s 120-108 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Feb. 4, Giannis poured in 34 points to go along with 17 boards and six assists. He followed that up with another superb performance against the Philadelphia 76ers.
In that contest, he finished with 36 points, 20 rebounds, and six assists. Antetokounmpo concluded the week with 18-18-9 stat line against the Orlando Magic. Unfortunately, the Greek Freak did little from a defensive standpoint as he recorded just three blocks and two steals.
The Second-Best NBA Defensive Player of the Year Odds: Rudy Gobert DPOY Odds (+310 – No Change)
The Utah Jazz couldn’t duplicate the same level of success that the Bucks had. However, they did manage to post two wins in their three outings. Gobert kicked off his week with a 16-point, 14-rebound outing in a losing effort against the Denver Nuggets. In the next contest against the Portland Trail Blazers, he contributed 16 points and 14 rebounds to go along with a pair of assists.
Gobert concluded his week with 12 points (on just six shot attempts) and 15 rebounds in a 114-113 win over the Houston Rockets. From a defensive standpoint, Gobert didn’t do much to move the needle as he averaged one block per contest and just one steal in those three outings.
The Best NBA Defensive Player of the Year Odds: Anthony DavisDPOY Odds (-290 – No Change)
Anthony Davis continues to hold down the top spot on this list and with good reason. Following a somewhat quiet performance in a win against the Sacramento Kings on Feb. 4 (18 points and six rebounds), he poured in 32 points, 13 rebounds and three assists against the Houston Rockets. Unfortunately, the Rockets came away with a 121-111 victory. And against the Golden State Warriors, Davis finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to help Los Angeles escape with a 125-120 win.
As has been the case for most of the season, Davis also made his presence felt at the defensive end of the floor, as he averaged a more than respectable 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest. With a little over 30 games left to play, AD continues to make his case for the league’s top defensive player.
