Do the NBA 6th Man of the Year Odds Say LA, or is There Some Thunder from Another?

By: James Tillman

The Sixth Man of the Year race has been the most competitive one of the various categories we’ve been discussing during the NBA season. While Lou Williams has been a mainstay on the list, another noticeable change has taken place.

Having said that, here’s a look at the updated Unibet odds for the players with the best chances of winning the award based on how they performed over the past week (Mar. 3 through Mar. 9)

6th Man of the year odds

Third-Best NBA 6th Man of the Year Odds: Lou Williams (+400). Last Week’s Sixth Man Odds (+175)

As it was previously mentioned, LA Clippers guard Lou Williams had been the frontrunner in this category before slipping to the No. 2 spot in last week’s rankings. For the second straight week, sweet Lou’s odds have dipped again, and he finds himself at the No. 3 spot. Williams got off to a solid start, scoring 14 points and handing out four assists in a 109-94 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After that though, his production took a noticeable nosedive. In the team’s 120-105 win against the Houston Rockets, he scored just five points and converted just one of his five attempts from the field. Williams concluded his week with another bad showing against the Los Angeles Lakers. In that contest, he scored seven points on 3-for-11 shooting from the field. Despite, the dismal showing over the last two games, Williams still has an outside chance at getting back into the race.

Second–Best NBA Sixth Man of the Year Odds: Montrezl Harrell (+250) Last week’s 6th Man Odds (+200)

After trailing his teammate in this category over the past several weeks, LA Clippers forward Montrezl Harris comes in at the No. 2 spot on the list. In the team’s win over the Thunder, he contributed 16 points and three rebounds. In the next game against the Rockets, he tallied 19 points to go along with 10 boards and two blocks.

Harrell concluded his week with another solid showing against the Los Angeles Lakers as he scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Harrell continues to have a career year, but the question is does he have enough time to overtake the top player on our list?

NBA 6th Man of the Year Odds Favorite: Dennis Schroder (-200). Last Week’s Sixth Man Odds (+130)

For the second consecutive week, Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Dennis Schroder holds down the top spot on the list. After scoring 24 points in a losing effort against the LA Clippers, Schroder helped power the Thunder to three consecutive wins. Against the Detroit Pistons, he tallied 23 points and nine assists.

In the next outing the lowly New York Knicks, Schroder wasn’t as efficient, scoring 16 points on 5-for-16 shooting from the field. He bounced back, however, with a solid effort against the Boston Celtics. In that contest, he finished with 27 points, six steals, two rebounds, and two steals. During his recent four-game stretch, Schroder has compiled averages of 22.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest. He is also shooting a more than respectable 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.

After struggling to an extent during his first year in OKC, Schroder has found his footing in the team’s rotation, to say the least. For the second time in three seasons, he is averaging 19 points per contest and he is a shooting a career-best 38.1 percent from 3-point range. If he continues to duplicate this level of production down the stretch, the 6th Man of the Year award is his to lose.
