Portland Trail Blazers Odds
Already down 3-1 in the Western Conference first-round series, devastating news came that Portland star Damian Lillard will miss Game 5 when the Trail Blazers face the Lakers on Wednesday night due to a sprained right knee.
A second MRI exam performed on Tuesday revealed the sprain, which occurred in the third quarter of the team’s Game 4 loss. Lillard, who was already playing with a dislocated left index finger, was averaging just 24.3 points per game versus the Lakers after scoring 51, 61 and 42 points in the final three seeding games before scoring 31 against the Memphis Grizzlies in the play-in contest.
CJ McCollum, Carmelo Anthony and Gary Trent Jr. will have to pick up the scoring. Anfernee Simons will receive a lot more minutes in Lillard’s absence. The Blazers lost Game 4 135-115 and were down 80-51 at halftime.
Los Angeles Lakers Odds
The Los Angeles Lakers recovered from a Game 1 blip to dominate the Portland Trail Blazers in their Western Conference first-round series — and that was with Damian Lillard.
Now the Lakers are poised to eliminate the Blazers in Wednesday night’s Game 5, a job that should be easier now that Lillard is out with a knee sprain. Anthony Davis and LeBron James have been able to impose their will against an opponent that lacks matchups against the superstars.
The Lakers dismantled the Blazers 135-115 in Game 4, as Davis logged just 18 minutes before leaving with back spasms while James called it a night after 28 minutes. Rajon Rondo remains doubtful with back spasms.
