Mike Trout continues to widen the lead in AL MVP Odds
The 2019 MLB season continues to roll along, and there continues to be one player steamrolling the rest in the American League. And therefore, the 2019 AL MVP Odds continue to favor that one man: Mike Trout.
Trout is keeping the Los Angeles Angels relevant down the stretch, even with them being out of playoff contention. Trout is leading the American League in home runs, third in RBIs, and among the top 15 in batting average. He also has 10 stolen bases, which may not seem like that many, but that has him among the top 25 in the league. Trout continues to impress in the field as well as he is an amazing five-tool player.
There are only a handful of other players with numbers similar to Trout in home runs (mind you, Trout has 42), RBIs (Trout already has 99) and .280 batting average (Trout is batting .293) in the American League. In fact, the only other player with 30 homers, 90 runs batted in and a ,280 batting average is the Houston Astros’ Alex Bregman. He has 32 home runs, 90 RBIs, and a .283 batting average. Trout is also the only player with at least 25 home runs to have 10 or more stolen bases.
Trout’s numbers speak for themselves and there are still plenty of things you can say about them. That’s why he is a heavy favorite to win the AL MVP. Mike Trout’s MVP chances match his odds of -1200, making him a huge favorite to win the award. However, due to his team not being in the playoffs, he could lose some votes. There are a few other players that have helped their teams in the playoff race who could garner some votes, but they’re still longshots.

AL MVP Odds are All Mike Trout, Is Anybody Else in Contention?
The player with the second-best AL MVP chances is quite far behind in the AL MVP odds at +1200, and that is DJ LeMahieu. However, you shouldn’t rule him out.
LeMahieu is second in the league in batting with a .332 average, and has hit for some power as well with 22 home runs and 87 runs batted in. He has been the motor of the Yankees, which is shocking considering all of the star power on the Bronx Bombers. LeMahieu has been the consistent driving force causing the Yankees to run away with the AL East.
Behind the Yankees in the division are the Boston Red Sox, who also happen to have two AL MVP contenders. Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts have both been leading the charge for Boston, and also both sit at +2532. It’s long odds for the pair, and for good reason. The Red Sox are only barely more in the hunt this season than the Angels and Trout, and they have both Devers and Bogaerts at the top. Both Trout and LeMahieu have much stronger cases.
Mike Trout has proven that he’s the best baseball player in the world right now, and possibly of all time. At -1200 odds, Mike Trout’s MVP chances are right there for him to take home his third AL MVP award — his first since 2016.
