Jesse Winker has been the hot bat of late in the Cincinnati lineup, belting his sixth homer in seven games Wednesday night in the Reds’ 5-0 shutout of Kansas City. Winker is 12-for-20 (.600) with six walks in his seven-game surge.

Adam Wainwright gets the ball Thursday for St. Louis’ first home game since July 26 as the Cardinals host the Cincinnati Reds to open a four-game series. The veteran right-hander checked the Chicago White Sox on two hits over five innings Saturday in a 5-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader.
Wainwright is 10-12 with a 5.25 ERA in 32 career games against the Reds, 27 of them starts. Since the Cardinals returned to action on Saturday, infielder Brad Miller has splash on offense, going 7-for-16 (.438) with two homers and nine RBIs during the team’s just-concluded 4-4 road trip. He went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two walks during a doubleheader split against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
