Chicago White Sox Odds
Seeking to regroup after blowing a late lead in a 5-4 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday, the White Sox will give the ball to rookie right-hander Dane Dunning (0-0, 3.86 ERA) on Wednesday for his fourth career start.
Dunning will look to rebound from a rough outing Friday in Kansas City, when he yielded three runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings with four walks and four strikeouts. Dunning, who has fanned 18 batters in 14 innings, had issued only two walks in his first 9 1/3 innings.
Fellow rookie Nick Madrigal doubled twice in the Tuesday defeat, the first extra-base hits of his career. Jose Abreu went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to a career-high-tying 21 games.
Pittsburgh Pirates Odds
The Pirates will try to extend their winning streak to three games behind rookie right-hander JT Brubaker (1-0, 3.96 ERA), who is set to make his sixth career start and eighth appearance.
Brubaker earned his first major league victory on Thursday, limiting the Chicago Cubs to two runs (one earned) and seven hits in five innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Brubaker has issued three walks or fewer in each of his starts and worked five innings in each of his last two outings, a career high.
Pittsburgh has won two straight games in walk-off fashion and has captured four of six overall with a varied attack doing the damage. Adam Frazier and Erik Gonzalez extended their hitting streaks to 11 and nine games, respectively.
White Sox at Pirates Betting Pick for September 9, 2020
The White Sox have scored 35 runs in their past five games and are facing a rookie pitcher, and leadoff man Tim Anderson has multiple hits in four of his past five games. That figures to spell success for Chicago in the finale of a nine-game road trip.

White Sox 7, Pirates 4

Both starters have shown well in spots in their young careers but haven’t yet developed their full arsenals or consistently pitched deep into games. Brubaker has yielded just two home runs in 25 innings, but the slugging White Sox have shown the ability to score runs in other ways.
