Chicago White Sox Odds
The Chicago White Sox are surging, and their Tuesday starter at Pittsburgh is just one reason why. Dylan Cease (5-2) picked up the pieces after a rough first start and has allowed more than three runs just once in his past seven outings.
Not surprisingly, Cease is 5-1 in that span, and the pitching staff has followed his lead. The hard-throwing Cease posted ugly numbers as a rookie, a 5.79 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. Those are down to 3.29 and 1.34, respectively.
Cease is still prone to control trouble at times, but improved command — and a better lineup around him — has led to progress all the way around.
Pittsburgh Pirates Odds
Pittsburgh’s Opening Night starter, Joe Musgrove, gets his fifth start of the year Tuesday. It’s been a lost season of sorts for the right-hander, who missed nearly a month with triceps and ankle injuries, then lasted only three innings in his return Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs.
Musgrove (0-4, 6.69 ERA) was nicked for three hits and two runs in an 8-2 loss, but did he fan four without a walk, which could be taken as a good sign. Musgrove issued 11 walks in 14 2/3 innings prior to his IL stint, a vast departure from his career norm. The Pirates hope that Musgrove’s stuff plays better over his last four starts of 2020.
White Sox at Pirates Betting Pick for September 8, 2020
The White Sox are one of the few teams this year who combine average with power. The Pirates’ pitching has been mostly dreadful, especially when they call on the bullpen. If recent trends carry over to Tuesday night, you won’t go wrong wagering on the South Siders.
White Sox at Pirates Betting Pick: White Sox (-162), Pirates (+145)
White Sox 6, Pirates 4
White Sox at Pirates Best Bet for September 8, 2020
In a truncated season where starters rarely make it through six innings and teams often must cycle through five relievers a game, taking the over is always a safe play. The odds that one of those relievers has nothing on the ball is always good, especially if you’re betting on a Pittsburgh game.
White Sox at Pirates Best Bet: Over 9.5 runs (-105)
