Yankees at Blue Jays Betting Preview: Yankees (-286), Blue Jays (+235)
New York Yankees
Aaron Judge’s return from a strained right calf is imminent and could even occur Wednesday when the surging Yankees continue a three-game series with the Blue Jays.
If Judge returns Wednesday, he would rejoin a lineup that has outscored opponents 48-11 during a six-game winning streak. The Yankees opened the series when Luke Voit homered twice in a 20-6 rout as they belted six homers and collected 16 hits.
Judge’s return will follow the returns of Gio Urshela and Giancarlo Stanton, who came back Tuesday. It would give the Yankees their complete lineup for the first time since Aug. 8.
Gerrit Cole (5-3, 3.20 ERA) will start Wednesday coming off a dominant two-hitter in the opener of Friday’s doubleheader against the Orioles. Cole is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in two career starts against Toronto.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays are coming off one of their worst defeats of the season, the second time in five days they lost by at least 14 runs.
After allowing six homers and getting only 1 2/3 innings from starter Taijuan Walker on Tuesday, Toronto is hoping to avoid using its bullpen extensively even if the club makes a move to add another reliever or two.
One thing the Blue Jays are hoping to see is more production from Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who homered and had three hits Tuesday. Gurriel is batting .388 (19-for-49) with four homers and 10 RBIs in 14 games this month.
Tanner Roark (2-1, 5.60 ERA), who has yet to record an out in the sixth inning this year, will face the Yankees for the second straight time. On Sept. 9, he allowed two runs on two hits in four innings. He is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three career starts against New York.
Blue Jays at Yankees Betting Pick for September 15, 2020
It is hard to pick against the Yankees based on how things are going lately. Look for their offense to continue hitting well, though not as much as in Tuesday’s rout.
Yankees at Blue Jays Betting Pick: Yankees 9, Blue Jays 3
Yankees at Blue Jays Best Bet for September 16, 2020
Even if the two teams combine for 15 fewer runs than they produced Thursday, they would push the game above the better total. Especially if the Yankees get into the Toronto bullpen, the scoreboard figures to light up again.
Yankees at Blue Jays Best Bet: OVER 8.5 total runs (-120).
