Tampa Bay Rays Odds
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to close out the 10-game season series with the New York Yankees by getting their eighth win. There also could some retaliation as the Rays were annoyed with pinch hitter Michael Brosseau getting thrown up-and-in by Aroldis Chapman on a 101 mph fastball on Tuesday in New York’s 5-3 win.
If the Rays opt for retaliation early in the game, Charlie Morton could be the one doing it, as he is expected to make his return from right shoulder inflammation after missing three weeks. Morton, who is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four starts this season, is 4-2 with a 3.99 ERA in nine career starts against New York.
New York Yankees Odds
The New York Yankees, who are 2-7 against the Tampa Bay Rays this year, look to end the season series on a positive note Wednesday after getting a 5-3 win Tuesday.
Jordan Montgomery will start Wednesday for New York, looking to improve upon his 2-1 record a 4.44 ERA through five starts. He last pitched Friday and took a no-decision after allowing two runs on five hits in five-plus innings of the Yankees’ 6-4 loss to the New York Mets.
Montgomery is 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA in five career starts against Tampa Bay. DJ LeMahieu homered twice Tuesday and raised his season average to .402 that would lead the majors if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.
Rays at Yankees Betting Prediction
Morton was pitching better before getting injured, but it’s difficult to expect much if he is going to be limited to 40 or 50 pitches.
New York’s rotation has done decently of late, with the starters allowing three runs or fewer in 19 of the past 22 games. However, Montgomery, seemed to tire in the sixth inning during in his last start. The teams have played mostly close games this season, and that doesn’t figure to change.
FLM Prediction: Yankees (-116) vs. Rays (+102)
Yankees 5, Rays 4
Rays at Yankees Best Bet for September 2, 2020
Both teams are similar in their run production with the Yankees averaging 4.9 runs and the Rays averaging 5.2. The most runs scored by anyone in the season series was 10 by Tampa Bay on Aug. 20. An over-under of 8 1/2 runs is about right for these teams, but figure the over will be narrowly surpassed.
FLM Best Bet: Over 8 runs (-105)
