Chicago White Sox Odds
Right-hander Dylan Cease and the Chicago White Sox will hope to maintain their season-long success against the Kansas City Royals as the teams open a four-game series on Thursday. C
ease is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three career starts against the Royals, with two of those outings coming last month. Cease (4-2, 3.00 ERA) limited Kansas City to three runs and six hits in those games, logging nine strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings. Control was an issue for Cease on Saturday, however, as he issued a season-high six walks.
The White Sox lost two of three at Minnesota to begin the week but will aim to get well against the Royals, against whom they are 5-1 this season. Chicago has lost two in a row for the first time since Aug. 15.
Kansas City Royals Odds
After losing two of three to the Cleveland Indians to open a seven-game homestand, the Kansas City Royals will face another team against which they have struggled, the Chicago White Sox. Chicago has won five of six against Kansas City entering Thursday’s series opener.
Royals lefty Danny Duffy (2-2, 4.11 ERA) will look to improve upon Friday’s outing in Chicago as he makes his second straight start against the White Sox. Duffy took a no-decision after yielding four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
Duffy is 10-6 with 4.07 ERA in 26 career appearances against the White Sox, including 24 starts. Jorge Soler experienced oblique irritation and mid-back tightness Wednesday and was removed from the Royals’ 5-0 loss as a precaution.
White Sox at Royals Betting Pick
Chicago hit two of its American League-leading 65 home runs against Duffy on Friday. That familiarity and a motivated Cease will steer a White Sox bounce back.
FLM Prediction: White Sox (-129) vs. Royals (+108)
White Sox 7, Royals 2
White Sox at Royals Best Bet
Chicago’s Jose Abreu enters Thursday on a 16-game hitting streak but has gone six straight games without a home run. Despite strong career numbers against Duffy — 19-for-59 (.322) with two home runs and five RBIs — Thursday may not be the right spot for his first homer in Kansas City this season.
White Sox at Royals Best Bet: Under 0.5 Abreu home runs
