The Astros have lost four in a row — all to the Los Angeles Angels, who have moved within five games of second-place Houston in the American League West. Now the Astros face the division’s first-place occupant as Houston and the Oakland Athletics will play a four-day, five-game series, with a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Originally scheduled as a three-game set, games were added because two games in the clubs’ most recent head-to-head in Houston were postponed, one by a player protest against racial injustice and the other by a positive coronavirus test on the Oakland side.

The A’s have won three of five from the Houston Astros this season, with the home team having won all five times. This series completes the season series, meaning the A’s will have played eight of 10 against the Astros this season on their home field.
The A’s have played just three games in the last eight days due to being quarantined in Houston. They totaled 11 runs in those three games against the Padres, with most of them coming in an 8-4 win Saturday.
