Rookie right-hander JT Brubaker (1-1, 5.34 ERA) is set to start for Pittsburgh in his first career appearance against Cincinnati. Cincinnati earned its season-high fourth straight victory Tuesday with help from Tucker Barnhart’s fourth home run of the season, a solo shot leading off the second inning.
The Reds have outscored opponents 26-11 during the streak while climbing to ninth place in the National League, one game behind the San Francisco Giants for the NL’s final playoff spot.
Right-hander Luis Castillo (2-5, 3.44 ERA) tossed a complete-game two-hitter at St. Louis in his most recent start, allowing one run with three walks and six strikeouts on Friday. In nine career starts against the Pirates, Castillo is 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 51 innings.
