Indians at Cubs Betting Preview: Indians (-120), Cubs (+110)
Cleveland Indians
There are gut-wrenching ways to lose, and then there’s what the Indians managed Tuesday night: back-to-back hit batters in the bottom of the ninth to hand the Cubs a 6-5 win. It was the seventh straight loss for Cleveland, which is now the second American League wild-card position.
Canceled out in the latest defeat was a big game for Francisco Lindor. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBI, improving his season numbers to .286 with eight homers and 24 RBIs. Lindor is 7-for-17 (.412) over his past four games.
Aaron Civale (3-5, 3.88 ERA) is 0-3 in his last four starts, allowing 14 earned in 24 innings. He is coming off an 11-1 home loss to Kansas City on Thursday, when he gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings.
Chicago Cubs
Five games ahead of second-place St. Louis with 12 days left in the season, the Cubs are in good shape to win the National League Central. Their offense has shown signs of life in a three-game winning streak, putting 22 runs on the board in the past 19 innings.
Javier Baez has endured a tough year at the plate, but he has managed hits in his last three games, including a solo homer Tuesday night. Baez is batting only .206, but he is definitely capable of heating up in the last two weeks and the postseason.
Veteran Jon Lester (2-2, 5.05 ERA) gave Chicago some encouragement by firing six shutout innings Friday night in Milwaukee. He struck out eight and walked two. His last win came Aug. 11 in Cleveland, when he yielded only one run on three hits in six innings.
Indians at Cubs Betting Pick for September 16, 2020
Tuesday night might have been rock bottom for the Indians during their losing streak. Rallying to tie the score in the top of the ninth, only to lose on consecutive hit batters, is some kind of brutal. With nowhere to go but up, Cleveland figures out a way to end this miserable skid behind Lindor and Jose Ramirez.

Indians at Cubs Best Bet for September 16, 2020
Civale hasn’t pitched badly overall, but he has struggled lately. However, Lester has been worse, outside of his latest start. Even with the wind predicted to blow in from left field, this might be a good night for a seasoned bettor to forget the conditions and hammer the over.
