Houston Astros Odds
The Astros will complete their second stop on a three-city road trip Thursday afternoon when the face the A’s. They have played eight games on the voyage so far and still have a visit to the Dodgers awaiting. Houston is a miserable 1-7 on the trip so far.
The Astros had three hits in the first four innings Wednesday, but just one the rest of the way. George Springer and Yuli Gurriel hit home runs.
Right-hander Jose Urquidy (0-0, 4.91 ERA) will pitch Thursday, making just his second start after recovering from the coronavirus. He gave up two runs on four hits over 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday. In his lone career outing against the A’s, he fanned 10 and gave up one run on one hit in five innings last September.
Oakland A‘s Odds
Ramon Laureano capped an Athletics’ rally Wednesday with a game-ending hit against his former team, giving Oakland its third win in the first four games of the series against the Astros. The A’s have five walk-off victories, the most in baseball.
The first-place A’s are 17-7 at home and 20-9 against the AL West. They won Wednesday without Matt Chapman (hip) and with Stephen Piscotty (wrist) merely appearing as a pinch runner. Oakland needed just two innings from its relievers Wednesday, following a Tuesday doubleheader, leaving the bullpen in good shape for Thursday.
Left-hander Sean Manaea (3-2, 5.09 ERA) will take the mound in the series finale after holding the Padres to one run on four hits over five innings at home on Saturday. He has a 3.48 ERA in 12 career starts against Houston.
Astros at A‘s Betting Pick for September 10, 2020
Manaea is not only coming off one of his best starts of the season, but he has given up just one earned run in each of his past two home starts and he gets to pitch on that same mound again Thursday.
The Astros’ Alex Bregman is 0-for-4 with a walk since returning from the injured list after recovering from a hamstring strain, and Houston probably doesn’t get back into a flow until he does.
Astros at A‘s Betting Pick: Astros (+124), A‘s (-142)
A‘s 5, Astros 3
Astros at A‘s Best Bet for September 10, 2020
The Astros and A’s already have played a low-scoring series and now comes a day game with potentially eerie smoke-filled orange skies from nearby wildfires as there were Wednesday. If the conditions appear again, even with the stadium lights on, seeing pitches could be an issue in unpredictable conditions.
Astros at A’s Best Bet: A’s MONEY LINE/UNDER 9 (+190).
