Wichita State Shockers at Houston Cougars
Wichita State Shockers Preview
The Wichita State Shockers (17-5, 5-4 American Athletic Conference) are coming off consecutive losses in the final seconds against Tulsa and Cincinnati. Jaime Echenique posted double-doubles in both games. He finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the last game against the Bearcats and also had three blocks.
He has four double-doubles this season and eight in his career. Jamarius Burton is two assists shy of 200 for his career. He can become just the sixth Shocker to reach that milestone by the end of his sophomore season, joining a list that includes Fred VanVleet and Landry Shamet.
No. 25 Houston Cougars Preview
The Houston Cougars (18-5, 8-2) will welcome back guard DeJon Jarreau to the starting lineup. Jarreau served a one-game suspension Thursday, when Houston defeated Tulane, after he bit Cincinnati’s Mamoudou Diarra during a second-half scrum last week. Houston is 44-3 at home in the last three seasons under Kelvin Sampson.
Standing-room only tickets are remaining for the game against Wichita State at the Fertitta Center. The Cougars continue to rank among the nation’s top five in rebounds per game (42, fourth), offensive rebounds per game (14.1, tied for fourth), rebounding margin (plus-9.9, second) and offensive rebounding percentage (38.8, second). Houston’s only losses within conference play have each come by two points.
