Washington Wizards Preview
One game after coach Scott Brooks lit into his club following a 13-point loss to the Denver Nuggets, the Washington Wizards responded with a 140-132 victory over the host Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. Bradley Beal, the NBA’s fourth-leading scorer at 28.9 points per game, led the way against the Suns with 35 points, hitting 4 of 6 3-point attempts. The game against Los Angeles will feature a reunion of former Lakers.
Thomas Bryant (23 points vs. Phoenix), Isaiah Thomas, Moritz Wagner and Isaac Bonga all have had stints with Los Angeles. The latter pair were traded to the Wizards last summer to clear cap room for the Lakers to acquire Anthony Davis. Wagner is averaging 12.3 points for the Wizards’ second unit, which is averaging 48.3 points per game, second in the NBA to the Los Angeles Clippers’ 52.7.
Los Angeles Lakers Preview
Anthony Davis has sparked the Los Angeles Lakers’ hot start to the NBA’s best record. The 6-foot-10 forward put up 41 points and nine rebounds Wednesday to lead the Lakers in a 114-110 victory over his former club, the New Orleans Pelicans. It was Davis’ first return to New Orleans in a Los Angeles uniform since the club traded him for Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and draft picks.
The win was the Lakers’ ninth in a row and their 16th in 17 games. Davis has been crucial to the Lakers’ solid play, averaging 26.1 points, nine boards and 3.6 assists this season. Davis leads the league in blocks at 2.8 per contest. LeBron James became the fourth player to score more than 33,000 career points during the win at New Orleans.
