When the Villanova Wildcats visit St. John’s on Tuesday, they may be without forward Jermaine Samuels, who is listed as day-to-day after hurting his foot Saturday against Providence. Samuels is averaging 11.1 points and 5.0 rebounds a game. Guard Collin Gillespie, who is averaging 16.7 points during Villanova’s current six-game winning streak, is the only active Villanova player who averaged more than 12 minutes per game on the 2018 national championship team.

He leads the Wildcats in both scoring (15.1 points per game) and assists (4.6 per game). Villanova was tied for 28th in Division I with 9.5 made 3-pointers per game through the weekend.

St. John’s Red Storm Preview

The St. John’s Red Storm, who play host to Villanova on Tuesday, will be looking for their third win in the teams’ past four meetings, including a victory last February at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm had 220 steals through the weekend, the second-highest total in the country, and they had forced opponents into 372 turnovers, which ranked eighth.

Junior wing LJ Figueroa is coming off scoring career-best 28 points in the Red Storm’s 79-66 win at DePaul on Saturday. Senior guard Mustapha Heron has shot 46.7 percent (14 of 30) from 3-point range and 94.1 percent (16 of 17) at the free-throw line over the past five games.
