Villanova Wildcats at Butler Bulldogs
Villanova Wildcats Preview
The 10th-ranked Villanova Wildcats head into Hinkle Fieldhouse to face Butler looking to start a new winning streak. Villanova saw its seven-game streak ended Saturday at home against Creighton, denying the Wildcats an opportunity to move into a tie atop the Big East Conference with Seton Hall. The Wildcats get a crack at the Pirates on Saturday, but first they face a Butler team that has endured a rough month.
Villanova brings a balanced offense with five double-figure scorers, paced by Collin Gillespie’s 15.3 points per game and Saddiq Bey’s 15. Villanova’s balance fuels its No. 19 national ranking in adjusted offensive efficiency, per KenPom.com.
Butler Bulldogs Preview
The 19th-ranked Butler Bulldogs fell on Saturday for the fourth time in the past six games, dropping a 65-61 decision against Providence. Butler failed to hit 70 points for the fourth time in this current stretch, which includes a 76-61 loss at Villanova on Jan. 21. The Bulldogs’ season-long leading scorer, Kamar Baldwin, posted 21 points against the Wildcats, but a lack of scoring contribution outside of Bryce Golden and Bryce Nze (with 11 each) doomed the Bulldogs.
On the season, Butler is a modest scoring team at 69 points per game, but it has found success by holding opponents to an average of 59.9 points per game. However, the latter mark has jumped by 6.3 points in Big East Conference play.
