UNC Tar Heels at North Carolina State Wolfpack

North Carolina Tar Heels Preview

The North Carolina Tar Heels finally shook two losing streaks — five games overall and a program-worst six in ACC play — by beating a short-handed Miami team 94-71 on Saturday. UNC carved up a 2-3 zone with 32 assists on 40 baskets, with senior guard Brandon Robinson scoring a career-high 29 points after missing a game because of neck pain associated with a car accident earlier this month.

Freshman forward Armando Bacot posted his seventh double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) and added a season-high seven assists. There is some speculation that star freshman guard Cole Anthony could return Monday night. He has been out since undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee on Dec. 17.

North Carolina State Wolfpack Preview

The North Carolina State Wolfpack have played the past two games with only seven available scholarship players, managing a gritty road win at Virginia but then falling 64-58 at Georgia Tech on Saturday, when they were outscored 14-3 to end the game. Coach Kevin Keatts was “hopeful” that forward Manny Bates (concussion) and guard Pat Andree (ankle) would be able to play Monday.

When at full strength, the Wolfpack have an efficient, balanced offense, led by senior guards C.J. Bryce (13.9 points per game) and Markell Johnson (13.2). N.C. State, which is 11-1 at home — including a nonconference win over Wisconsin — will be trying to snap a four-game skid against rival North Carolina.
