UCLA Bruins Preview
The UCLA Bruins have won four of their last five games, including a home sweep last weekend of then-No. 20 Colorado and Utah. Jaime Jaquez Jr. was named the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Week after he averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in the Bruins’ two victories. Jaquez shot 50 percent from the field through both contests and made 15 of 16 free-throw attempts (93.8 percent).
UCLA has outrebounded the opposition in 18 of 22 games this year, and its plus-6.7 rebounding margin leads the Pac-12. Sophomore Jalen Hill ranks second on the team in scoring (9.9 points per game) and first in rebounding (7.1 a game). The 6-foot-10 forward/center has four double-doubles this season.
Arizona State Sun Devils Preview
The Arizona State Sun Devils enter their Thursday home game against UCLA winners of three of their last four. In their 87-83 victory at Washington on Saturday, Rob Edwards (9 of 10), Romello White (8 of 8) and Remy Martin (5 of 6) combined to shoot 92 percent on free throws. The Sun Devils sank 81.8 percent (27 of 33) from the line as a team.
Arizona State leads the Pac-12 with an average of 7.95 steals per game, but it is the conference’s worst 3-point-shooting team, hitting just 30.5 percent from beyond the arc. Martin, the team’s leading scorer at 19.3 points per game, has 13 20-plus-point games on the year.
