Portland Trail blazers at Utah Jazz
Portland Trail Blazers Preview
The Portland Trail Blazers look to record their seventh victory in nine games when they visit the Utah Jazz on Friday night. Portland also is aiming to defeat the Jazz for the second time in seven days as All-Star guard Damian Lillard scored 51 points last Saturday in the Blazers’ 124-107 home victory. Lillard has scored at least 20 points in 17 consecutive games, the latest being a 26-point, 10-assist performance Thursday in Portland’s 125-117 home win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Backup guard Gary Trent Jr. matched his career best of six 3-pointers — he missed just once — while contributing 18 points. Big man Hassan Whiteside equaled his season high of 23 rebounds and also recorded 17 points and four blocked shots.
Utah Jazz Preview
The Utah Jazz aim to halt a season-worst, five-game losing streak when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. Utah was sailing along with 19 victories in 21 games before the current skid. The Jazz have allowed 124 or more points on three occasions during the losing streak.
The defense wasn’t the culprit Wednesday in a 98-95 home loss to the Denver Nuggets. Utah scored just 38 second-half points and allowed a 15-point, third-quarter lead to slip away against a team with just seven available players. Point guard Mike Conley scored 21 points against Denver, reaching the 20-point mark in consecutive games for just the second time this season.
