Buffalo Sabres at Colorado Avalanche
Buffalo Sabres Preview
The Buffalo Sabres bid to match a season high with a third consecutive victory on Wednesday when they open a four-game road trip against the Colorado Avalanche. The Sabres, who have won three in a row on five occasions this season, benefited from Kyle Okposo’s first two-goal performance in nearly two years in a 2-1 victory over Winnipeg on Sunday.
Okposo carries a four-game point streak (four goals, one assist) into the Wednesday encounter with the Avalanche, against whom Buffalo dropped a decisive 6-1 decision on Feb. 4. Captain Jack Eichel, who set up Sam Reinhart’s goal late in the first period of that contest, has 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in his past 13 games overall.
Colorado Avalanche Preview
The Colorado Avalanche aim to record their fourth straight win and 12th in 16 games overall on Wednesday when they host the Buffalo Sabres. Pavel Francouz has paid immediate dividends since signing a two-year, $4 million extension on Friday. The 29-year-old made 26 saves later that day to record his first NHL shutout in the Avalanche’s 1-0 win at Anaheim, then turned aside 20 shots the following night in a 2-1 shootout victory at Los Angeles.
Francouz, who was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week on Monday, owns a 3-0-1 mark since Philipp Grubauer sustained a lower-body injury in the NHL Stadium Series game against the Kings on Feb. 15.
