Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers

Los Angeles Rams Preview

The Los Angeles Rams face playoff elimination Saturday night when they visit the San Francisco 49ers. One Rams (8-6) loss or Minnesota Vikings (10-4) win in the final two weeks would oust the defending NFC champions. Rams coach Sean McVay reminded everyone this week that his team has bounced back well from losses this season.

They’ve won their last three games immediately following a defeat, beating Atlanta, Chicago and Arizona by a total score of 88-24. Quarterback Jared Goff is scheduled to make his third career start in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was a star at the University of California after a stellar prep career locally. He’s 2-0 in previous homecomings, throwing for 494 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

San Francisco 49ers Preview

The San Francisco 49ers must attempt to focus on the present rather than next week’s showdown with the Seattle Seahawks when they host the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night. The 49ers (11-3) enter Week 16 dead-even with Seattle (11-3) atop the NFC West, and must win to assure they’ll be no worse than tied entering their head-to-head in Seattle in the regular-season finale.

The 49ers are coming off a last-second loss at home to Atlanta but are expected to get cornerback Richard Sherman (partially torn hamstring) back to face a Rams team that has won its last two in Santa Clara, totaling 80 points in those contests. The 49ers’ defense dominated the Rams in Los Angeles in Week 6, sacking Jared Goff four times and giving up 48 net passing yards in a 20-7 triumph.
