Boston University Terriers Preview
The Boston University Terriers, the third seed in the Patriot League tournament, seek their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2011 on Wednesday when they take on top-seeded Colgate in the conference final. The Terriers lost both regular-season matchups, 79-70 at Colgate on Jan. 18 and 79-63 at home on Feb. 10.
Max Mahoney, the Terriers’ leading scorer, played just 10 minutes in the first meeting and went scoreless, and his 16 points in the rematch were not enough. Mahoney’s 57.7 percent shooting from the floor paces the Terriers’ excellent 53.7 percent shooting from inside the 3-point arc, but as a team, they struggle from long range at 32.2 percent. The 79 points the Terriers surrendered in each matchup with Colgate marked their highest yield in Patriot League play.
Colgate Raiders Preview
The Patriot League regular-season champion Colgate Raiders will bring an efficient offensive style and boast home-court advantage Wednesday as they pursue a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid. The Raiders last accomplished that feat in 1995 and 1996 behind NBA draft lottery pick Adonal Foyle. This team’s driving force is the trio of Jordan Burns on the perimeter and Rapolas Ivanauskas and Will Rayman inside.
The three, along with Tucker Richardson and Nelly Cummings, average double-figure scoring. Colgate’s balance is a byproduct of its consistent shooting. The Raiders make 52.8 percent of their 2-point field-goal attempts and 36.1 percent from 3-point range — two marks that rank among the best in the nation. Colgate has scored 83 or more points in four of its past five outings, including 89 in a 25-point semifinal rout of Lafayette on Sunday.
