Ohio State Buckeyes at Maryland Terrapins
Ohio State Buckeyes Preview
A surprising two-game losing streak has the Ohio State Buckeyes back on their heels after reaching No. 2 in the AP poll a couple of weeks ago. Ohio State fell to the chaos of West Virginia’s pressure defense and then to Wisconsin’s grinding efficiency.
Injuries have played a part, with forward Kyle Young day-to-day after missing the last game because of an appendectomy, and guard Duane Washington Jr. shooting 11 of 34 from the field since missing a game in mid-December because of a rib injury. While the offense struggled in the past two games, the defense remains top-notch, with the Buckeyes leading the Big Ten in scoring defense (58.4 points allowed per game) and field-goal percentage defense (35.8).
Maryland Terrapins Preview
The Maryland Terrapins conclude a three-game homestand, with the first two games — against Bryant and Indiana — helping them get back on track after they lost their only two games of the season.
Maryland will try to move to 10-0 at home and is hoping leading scorer Anthony Cowan (16.4 points per game) picks up where he left off against Ohio State last season, when he posted a total of 39 points and 10 assists in two wins over the Buckeyes. The senior guard has 10 assists and no turnovers in the past two games. Sophomore post Jalen Smith has eight double-doubles in 14 games for a team with a plus-9.0 rebounding margin.
