The Notre Dame Fighting Irish put together a four-game winning streak before falling 50-49 in overtime at Virginia on Tuesday. The Saturday game at Duke is the final stop on a three-game road stretch for Notre Dame, which scored 80 or more points in five consecutive games before a 61-57 victory at Clemson that preceded the tussle at Virginia.  

Upon entering the Atlantic Coast Conference, Notre Dame won five of its first six meetings with Duke, but the Irish since have dropped five in a row in the series. Senior forward John Mooney averages 16.3 points and an ACC-leading 13 rebounds per game. Notre Dame’s average of 9.8 turnovers per game is the lowest in the nation. 

Duke Blue Devils Preview

The Duke Blue Devils carry a six-game winning streak into the only scheduled matchup of the season against Notre Dame. Duke has won the teams’ past five meetings. After defeating No. 8 Florida State 70-65 on Monday night, the Blue Devils won’t oppose another ranked opponent across the last seven games of the regular season.  

Sophomore guard Tre Jones is averaging 17.4 points over the past 10 games. He has been aided at times by Jordan Goldwire, a junior guard who has posted career highs of 13 points in each of the past two home games. Center Vernon Carey Jr. has 12 double-doubles, second in the nation among freshmen behind the 13 of Memphis’ Precious Achiuwa.
