Chelsea Odds to Take Down Newcastle United
Chelsea travels to Newcastle this Saturday to put together two consecutive wins for the first time since November. After their 2-0 home loss to Southampton, Chelsea has won two of their last three games alongside a 1-1 draw with Brighton.
Chelsea won 3-0 in their last game at home against Burnley where Jorginho scored his second goal in three games, Tammy Abraham netted his 14th league goal of the season and Callum Hudson-Odoi rounded up the scoring with his first-ever Premier League goal.
It’s somewhat of a reinvigoration for Chelsea who suffered five defeats in seven games before their 2-1 win at Arsenal. Despite their tough run of results, Chelsea remains five points ahead of Manchester United in fifth place and looks set to achieve Champions League football in Frank Lampard’s first season in charge at Chelsea.
It remains an impressive season for Chelsea who boasts at least four academy products in their starting line-up in what is a change in approach from a club whose success was based on buying ready-made quality players for large sums of money.
The likes of Reece James, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham are all first-team starters under Lampard and are being trusted by their manager and in-turn producing performances that could see a few of these players in England’s Euro 2020 squad this summer
What Are Chelsea Odds to Hit the Road and Run Through Newcastle
They travel to Newcastle this weekend against a team that’s suffered a downturn in form in recent works. A tough schedule has hampered Newcastle’s form as they’ve lost to Manchester United (4-1), Everton (1-2) and Leicester City (0-3) in their last four games.
They stopped the recent run of losses in their last outing in a 1-1 draw with Wolves where they now sit 13th in the league, just five points above relegation.
Their record against Chelsea doesn’t stand for good measure as they’ve lost five of their last six league meetings against the Blues.
Newcastle’s last win against Chelsea came on the last day of the 2017/18 season as Newcastle ran out 3-0 winners that ended up being Antonio Conte’s last league game in charge as head coach of Chelsea.
Sportsbooks odds on Chelsea stretching their unbeaten run to four games open at -200, making them favorites. Odds on Newcastle to win their first game in five opens at +475, according to sportsbooks. Odds on a draw between the two sides open at +350.
Another Setback for Christian Pulisic
Pulisic suffered an adductor injury in training following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Brighton and said when he thinks he’ll be available again for selection.
“It’s been almost a week, and I’m just kind of taking it day by day. I’m just rehabbing every day. I’m doing my best to be back in the next week, the next couple of weeks. I don’t think it should be too long, so I’m just working every day, doing everything I can to be back on the pitch, Pulisic told ESPN.”
It’s yet another setback for Pulisic who’s lost his place in the Chelsea line-up and with Callum Hudson-Odoi taking his place and netting his first league goal in their 3-0 win over Burnley, Pulisic is under major pressure to succeed in West London.
