NC State Wolfpack at UNC Tar Heels

North Carolina State Wolfpack Preview

The North Carolina State Wolfpack are lurking around the NCAA Tournament bubble based on many projections after last week’s matchups against two Top 10 teams. They blew out Duke before losing to Florida State, with both games at home. NC State gets a wide range of performances from guard Markell Johnson, who scored 28 points against the Blue Devils and then seven vs. the Seminoles.

Now it’s back on the road for the short trip to face North Carolina, which pulled off a 10-point victory against the Wolfpack last month. NC State’s 8-8 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference puts the team amid a cluster of teams jockeying for position heading into the league tournament.

North Carolina Tar Heels Preview

The North Carolina Tar Heels have lost seven games in a row since winning 75-65 on Jan. 27 at North Carolina State. They are coming off a lopsided loss at Louisville, while the skid otherwise has been defined by narrow defeats to Boston College, Duke, Virginia and Notre Dame.

The Tar Heels, who hold last place in the ACC, had other blows to the roster during the weekend when forward Garrison Brooks was out because of illness and swingman Justin Pierce missed the Louisville game due to an ankle injury. The return of point guard Cole Anthony to the lineup from a knee injury hasn’t helped, as the Tar Heels are 0-7 since he rejoined the lineup.
